Hybrid - Newark, DE

Your role in our success will be:
The Senior Power BI Developer serves as a technical leader responsible for architecting, developing, and optimizing advanced business intelligence solutions that transform complex utility data (e.g., AMI, grid performance, asset health, consumption patterns) into highly actionable insights. This role leads enterprise dashboard initiatives, designs high-performance data models, develops sophisticated DAX calculations, and drives best-practice standards for analytics across the organization. The Senior Power BI Developer partners closely with business leaders, data engineering teams, and operational units to ensure analytics solutions support regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and long-term strategic decision-making.

What you’ll be working on:

Enterprise Dashboard & Report Development
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, visually compelling Power BI dashboards for high-impact KPIs (e.g., outage response, load forecasting, grid reliability, revenue protection).
  • Establish visualization standards and mentor analysts on UI/UX best practices.
Advanced Data Modeling & Transformation
  • Architect enterprise-grade semantic models using Power BI, Power Query, and DAX.
  • Integrate and transform data from multiple complex sources including SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake, data lakes, and external utility systems.
  • Ensure data models are optimized for performance, scalability, and governance.
Complex DAX & Advanced Analytics
  • Develop advanced DAX measures, time-intelligence calculations, and custom logic to support deep operational and financial analytics.
  • Provide thought leadership on advanced analytical capabilities, forecasting methodologies, and performance optimization.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner with operational leaders, IT, and regulatory teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Lead BI planning sessions, solution reviews, and user-enablement workshops.
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance to BI analysts and end users.
Governance, Security & Standards
  • Implement and maintain row-level security (RLS), workspace governance, and data lineage documentation.
  • Drive adoption of Power BI Service / Fabric governance standards, including capacity management and refresh strategy.
  • Ensure all BI solutions adhere to security, compliance, and data-quality standards.
Performance Optimization & Support
  • Diagnose and optimize slow-running reports, storage models, and refresh pipelines.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for BI troubleshooting and best-practice guidance.
  • Stay current with emerging Power BI and Microsoft Fabric capabilities and introduce enhancements to the BI ecosystem.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related role, preferably within the utility or energy industry.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Microsoft Fabric, DAX, M Query, and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise BI architecture, semantic models, and scalable dataset design.
  • Experience managing Power BI Premium, Fabric, or capacity-based environments.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data warehouse design, star and snowflake schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Experience working with relational and cloud-based data platforms such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake, Synapse, and Data Lake Storage.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or other data engineering tools (preferred).
  • Knowledge of utility-sector systems such as AMI, CIS, GIS, outage management, or asset management platforms (preferred).
