POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Software Documentation Specialist develops and maintains high-quality, user-focused documentation for NOAA's portfolio of fisheries management applications. This role ensures that technical systems are accessible, understandable, and compliant with federal usability and accessibility standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, edit, and standardize user documentation produced by development teams.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and audience-appropriate guidance.
  • Attend development and project meetings to gather requirements and system knowledge.
  • Produce Section 508-compliant documentation suitable for public release on NMFS websites.
  • Organize and manage documentation repositories to ensure consistency and ease of access.
  • Collaborate with developers, help desk staff, and program stakeholders to validate documentation accuracy.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Science, or related field.
  • 6+ years of professional technical documentation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing Section 508-compliant federal documentation.
  • Strong editing, organization, and stakeholder engagement skills.
