CNC Haas Setup Machinist

Santa Fe Springs, CA • On-site

Job description

At a Glance

Company: Paco Plastics & Engineering
Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670
Pay: $24–$29/hour
Job Type: Full Time
Experience: 3+ years
Machines: Haas CNC vertical machining centers (4-machine cell)
Controls: Haas

Why This Job Is Worth Considering

Paco Plastics & Engineering has been supplying the aerospace industry since 1948, producing injection-molded plastic parts and machined aircraft interior hardware — locks, latches, retainers, door bolting systems, and more — for over 300 companies. As a CNC Setup Machinist in the Hardware department, you'll run a dedicated 4-machine Haas cell producing high-volume parts with stable, predictable cycle times, using a streamlined setup strategy that limits changeovers to jaw swaps and offset updates rather than full re-tooling. It's a role built around owning a cell, not just running one machine.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Set up and operate all 4 assigned Haas CNC vertical machining centers, keeping every machine running and producing quality parts
  • Inspect and submit First Article (FA) approval between operations before clearing a machine for production
  • Execute scheduled changeovers by swapping fixture jaws and updating work coordinate offsets (G54+) using an edge finder and coaxial indicators, without re-touching all tooling
  • Track part quantities and complete job travelers at the end of each operation, verifying physical counts match
  • Perform ongoing in-process measurements and test-fitting with mating components to confirm form, fit, and function
  • Monitor tool wear, swap inserts, and maintain fluid levels to support long, uninterrupted runs
  • Communicate job status and equipment conditions with management and alternate shifts
  • Perform daily pre-use machine inspections and required maintenance
  • Follow all safety policies and participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews

Machines, Controls and Software

4 Haas CNC vertical machining centers running as a single production cell, with work holding via jaw-based fixturing, and edge finders and coaxial indicators for setting work coordinate offsets.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 3+ years setting up and operating CNC mills, with proven Haas competency
  • Comfortable managing a 4-machine cell — measuring parts, completing travelers, and checking fits without falling behind
  • Strong part-to-part inspection experience, including First Article procedures and functional mating checks
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and job travelers for geometric tolerances and critical dimensions
  • Own transportation to work
  • Fluent in reading and speaking English
  • Participate in understanding, implementing, and maintaining Paco's Quality Policy in accordance with AS-9100C / ISO-9001:2008 requirements
  • Willingness to work overtime as production needs require

Preferred:

  • Graduate of an NTMA program or technical college
  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment

Pay, Benefits and Schedule

$24–$29 per hour, depending on experience.

This is primarily a standing position — you'll be on your feet machining production parts for full shifts, lifting parts up to 50 lbs, and bending and reaching to load materials onto equipment. You'll also move throughout the building to collect, deliver, and handle production parts.
