Job Description
The Senior Engineer - Molding is tasked with developing and implementing manufacturing process technologies for BD IDS products. This role primarily involves leveraging expertise in Injection Molding to drive Quality improvements, expand Capacity, reduce Costs, and minimize and reduce waste. The Senior Engineer - Molding collaborates closely with GIE, R&D, Quality, and manufacturing sites to implement these technologies effectively.
Responsibilities
Knowledge & Problem Solving
  • Define requirements for injection molding processes and automation, from concept evaluation through commercialization. This involves creating molding-specific documents and procedures.
  • Develop molding machine settings, operating procedures, acceptance, and validation test plans and protocols.
  • Provide technological input to guide product development and ensure design for manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with vendors and plant technicians to achieve project and production objectives.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of technical principles, theories, and concepts in manufacturing process technology, along with general knowledge of other process technologies. Provide imaginative, thorough, and practical technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineering technicians, offering guidance and support to ensure professional growth and project success.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and improve efficiency.
  • Ability to enhance molding processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality policies
  • Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Discretion / Latitude
  • Work under general direction, independently determining and developing approaches to solutions.

Liaison
  • Communicate, coordinate, and execute tool design and injection molding process development activities, including tooling validation at manufacturing locations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and implement solutions to major manufacturing issues.
  • Lead Kaizen events involving a cross-functional team working intensively to identify and implement improvements in the molding area.

Project Management
  • Develop and execute validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ), engineering studies, and design of experiments.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the execution of capital projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This includes managing resources, monitoring progress, and addressing any issues that arise during the project lifecycle.

Education:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 7-10 years in plastics engineering, with a focus on product development and manufacturing.

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of polymer materials, manufacturing processes, and quality control.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Background in medical devices, in-vitro diagnostic products, or pharmaceutical products.
  • RJG Master Molder training/certification.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with 3D Sigma Soft or 3D Mold Flow analysis.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Advanced skills in computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Knowledge of validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and GMP/regulatory environments
  • Strong analytical and continuous improvement capability
