Your Job
Molex is seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer to join our Manufacturing Solutions Automation Team at our Lincoln, Nebraska manufacturing facility. In this role, you will lead the controls development, integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning of advanced automated assembly equipment supporting our Transportation Solutions division. You will take ownership of complex automation challenges from initial concept through equipment launch and production support.

You will join an innovative, globally collaborative team that partners across automation, manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and product engineering. Together, the team develops reliable automation solutions that improve equipment performance, safety, uptime, and long-term maintainability.
What You Will Do
  • Lead the controls design and development of advanced automated manufacturing equipment from concept through qualification
  • Develop controls architecture, PLC logic, HMI screens, servo and motion control solutions, machine safety systems, and supporting documentation
  • Identify and implement controls technologies that improve equipment performance, uptime, safety, and maintainability
  • Establish and advance controls standards for automated connector manufacturing equipment
  • Partner with global engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and automation teams to deliver robust production solutions
  • Serve as the controls technical lead during vendor design reviews, equipment builds, debugging, acceptance testing, installation, and startup
  • Troubleshoot complex machine control issues involving PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, sensors, vision systems, industrial networks, and safety circuits
  • Develop and maintain machine specifications, functional descriptions, electrical drawings, controls standards, and equipment acceptance criteria
  • Mentor controls engineers and technicians while promoting best practices in programming, documentation, equipment safety, and long-term supportability
  • This role requires international and domestic travel up to 20%

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience designing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial automation or machine control systems
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, servo or motion control, industrial sensors, electrical troubleshooting, and automated equipment startup
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, equipment specifications, and controls documentation

What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar PLC platforms and HMI software
  • Experience with robotics, vision systems, industrial networking, machine safety systems, or automated assembly equipment
  • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, equipment qualification, process validation, or production launch activities
  • Experience leading technical problem-solving efforts with automation vendors and cross-functional manufacturing teams
