Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Coastal Engineer to join our expanding coastal engineering team, focusing on projects in the Gulf Coast and Florida regions. The Senior Coastal Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and implementation of coastal engineering projects, including shoreline protection, coastal restoration, dredging, flood risk management, hydrodynamic modeling, and resilience planning. This position requires a deep understanding of coastal processes and engineering principles, as well as a proven track record of successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Design and Analysis: Lead the design and analysis of coastal engineering projects, including beach nourishment, dune restoration, waterfront structures, and living shorelines, using advanced engineering tools and methodologies.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical expertise and oversight throughout all project phases, from initial planning and design to construction and monitoring.
  • Coastal Engineering Modeling: Conduct coastal modeling (e.g., waves, sediment transport, hydrodynamic circulation) to inform project design and assess potential impacts.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project designs comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental impact assessments and permitting requirements.
  • Client Interaction: Work closely with clients, including government agencies and private sector partners, to understand project needs, present solutions, and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to practice strategic initiatives, direction, goal setting, client identification, market challenges and opportunities
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed project documentation, including engineering reports, design drawings, specifications, and technical memoranda.
  • Mentorship and Collaboration: Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team.
  • Quality Control: Implement quality control procedures to ensure all project deliverables meet the firm’s standards and client expectations.
  • Proposal Development: Assist in the preparation of proposals, including technical scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules for new business opportunities.
  • Field Work and Site Visits: Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and construction oversight as required, ensuring project work is carried out according to design specifications.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required in one or more states along the Gulf Coast, with the ability to obtain licensure in relevant states if not already held.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in coastal engineering, with demonstrated expertise in project design and implementation within the Gulf Coast or similar environments.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in coastal engineering software and tools (e.g., Delft3D, ADCIRC, SWAN), as well as GIS applications for coastal analysis.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex coastal challenges.
  • Team Player: Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a collaborative approach to project delivery.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel for project site visits, client meetings, and industry events as needed.
