Job description

Be a part of our mission! As a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable, and efficient climate solutions for buildings, homes and transportation, it's our responsibility to put the planet first. For us at Trane Technologies, and through our businesses including TraneandThermo King, sustainability is not just how we do business-it is our business. Do you dare to look at the world's challenges and see impactful possibilities? Do you want to contribute to making a better future? If the answer is yes, we invite you to consider joining us in boldly challenging what's possible for a sustainable world.

Learn about our benefits designed for you to Thrive at work and at home.

We boldly go.

Where is the work:

Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires.

What's in it for you:

Lead the energy and infrastructure projects redefining how buildings perform.

Ideal for experienced project developers, engineers, construction and design-build leaders, building automation and controls specialists, energy and sustainability professionals, and technical consultants ready to lead complex infrastructure, energy, and mission-critical projects.

If you enjoy leading multidisciplinary teams, solving hard problems, developing innovative solutions, and translating technical concepts for audiences at every level of an organization, this role offers the chance to make a significant impact while accelerating your own growth.

The facilities our customers depend on are changing faster than at any point in a generation - driven by electrification, decarbonization, surging demand for data and compute, on-site generation and storage, and the shift toward intelligent, grid-interactive operations. As a Senior Energy Services Project Developer, you sit at the center of that change.

This role serves as the leader and integrator of the project development process-bringing together customer objectives, engineering expertise, financial analysis, design, estimating, construction planning, performance requirements, and innovative technologies into complete solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.

Working closely with Sales, Energy Engineers, Design-Build Specialists, Measurement & Verification Engineers, Operations teams, contractors, and customer stakeholders, you will lead the development of complex energy, infrastructure, and facility modernization projects from opportunity qualification through contract execution.

Successful Senior Project Developers understand how building systems, operational requirements, financial objectives, project execution strategies, emerging technologies, and customer outcomes work together to create successful projects.

If you enjoy leading multidisciplinary teams, solving complex challenges, developing innovative solutions, and translating technical concepts to diverse audiences, this role offers an opportunity to make a significant impact while accelerating your own growth.

Where You'll Make an Impact

Our Energy Services business is built on decades of HVAC and controls leadership - and it's expanding into the vertical markets shaping the next decade of the built environment. In this role, you'll help develop projects across:

  • Electrification & Decarbonization - heat pumps, hydronic modernization, and net-zero pathways for aging building stock.
  • Core HVAC & Building Automation - the Trane and multi-vendor systems and controls that remain the backbone of every high-performing facility.
  • Renewable Energy & On-Site Generation - solar, combined heat and power, and distributed energy resources that lower both cost and carbon.
  • Energy Storage & Grid-Interactive Buildings - battery storage, load flexibility, and demand management that turn buildings into grid assets.
  • Intelligent & AI-Enabled Buildings - analytics, digital services, and AI-driven optimization that keep performance improving long after project handoff.
  • Mission-Critical & Data Centers - thermal management, high-density and liquid cooling, resilience, and efficiency for the facilities powering AI and the digital economy.

Why Join Trane?

At Trane, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work on projects that improve schools, universities, hospitals, government facilities, industrial sites, and commercial buildings.
  • Lead complex infrastructure and facility modernization programs that create lasting customer impact.
  • Develop solutions that improve building performance, operational efficiency, sustainability, resilience, and occupant experience.
  • Collaborate with experts in engineering, controls, construction, analytics, digital services, energy, and emerging technologies.
  • Gain exposure to electrification, decarbonization, intelligent buildings, energy storage, resilience planning, and advanced building technologies.
  • Influence major customer investment decisions through solution development and project leadership.
  • Join a company recognized for innovation, sustainability, building technology, and energy services leadership.
  • Build a career path that can lead to Executive Project Developer, Team Leader, Preconstruction Leader, Business Leader, or broader Energy Services leadership roles.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

Successful Senior Project Developers are natural project leaders who enjoy bringing people, information, and ideas together to solve problems. They can coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage competing priorities, evaluate technical and financial tradeoffs, and communicate solutions clearly to stakeholders at every level of an organization. They understand how customer goals, building systems, project execution, operations, technology, and financial considerations work together to create successful outcomes - and they're curious, collaborative, and always looking for a better way to deliver value.

What You'll Do - Key Responsibilities

Lead Project Development

Lead complex energy, infrastructure, and facility modernization opportunities from qualification through contract execution. Coordinate project development activities across engineering, design-build, estimating, operations, M&V, sales, and customer stakeholders while maintaining project schedules, priorities, deliverables, quality, and momentum.

Develop Integrated Solutions

Partner with technical experts to develop solutions that align with customer objectives and project requirements. Solutions may include HVAC modernization, building automation and controls, energy efficiency improvements, facility renewal, deferred maintenance reduction, electrification, sustainability initiatives, resilience improvements, intelligent building technologies, renewable energy solutions, and other emerging technologies.

Drive Customer Alignment

Work alongside sales teams and customer stakeholders to understand operational challenges, facility needs, financial objectives, and desired outcomes. Facilitate workshops, presentations, and planning discussions while helping stakeholders understand solution benefits, implementation requirements, risks, and expected results.

Evaluate Business & Financial Viability

Develop business cases, lifecycle cost analyses, project valuations, and funding strategies that support customer investment decisions. Help customers evaluate value beyond energy savings, including operational performance, reliability, risk reduction, asset renewal, sustainability goals, occupant experience, and organizational priorities.

Ensure Constructability & Project Feasibility

Collaborate with designers, contractors, estimators, and operations teams to ensure solutions are practical and executable. Evaluate project phasing, constructability, implementation challenges, subcontractor approaches, risk factors, and execution strategies to improve project outcomes and reduce delivery risk.

Advance Innovation & Digital Solutions

Leverage analytics, digital tools, building performance insights, and emerging technologies to strengthen project development and customer outcomes. Support Trane's innovation strategy through the application of intelligent buildings, advanced analytics, AI-enabled tools, resilience solutions, and next-generation infrastructure technologies.

What You'll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Business, Construction Management, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering, energy services, construction, facilities management, building automation, controls, consulting, project management, infrastructure development, capital projects, or similar fields.
  • Strong project leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Business and financial aptitude with the ability to evaluate project value and customer outcomes.

Preferred:

Experience with facility modernization, capital improvement programs, performance contracting (ESPC), design-build delivery, infrastructure planning, estimating, contractor coordination, HVAC systems, controls, mission-critical/data center facilities, renewable energy, or sustainability initiatives. Certifications such as CEM, PMP, PE, DBIA, or LEED AP are valued but not required.
