Senior Modeling Simulation Engineer information

What is a senior modeling simulation engineer?

A Senior Modeling Simulation Engineer is a specialized professional who develops, analyzes, and maintains computer models and simulations to predict the behavior of complex systems. They typically work in industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, or manufacturing, using advanced mathematical and computational techniques. Their role involves translating real-world processes into virtual models, analyzing simulation results, and providing insights to guide design or operational decisions. Senior engineers also mentor junior staff, lead projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior modeling simulation engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Modeling Simulation Engineer, you need expertise in mathematical modeling, simulation techniques, and a strong background in engineering or applied sciences, typically supported by a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree. Proficiency with technical tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and specialized simulation software, along with knowledge of systems engineering standards, is essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex technical concepts. These skills ensure the development of accurate, reliable models that inform critical engineering decisions and drive project success.

What are some common challenges faced by senior modeling simulation engineers when integrating new simulation tools into existing workflows?

Senior Modeling Simulation Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring compatibility between new simulation tools and legacy systems, managing data migration, and maintaining simulation accuracy during transitions. Collaboration with software developers and IT specialists is usually essential to address integration issues and optimize performance. Additionally, adapting internal processes and training team members on updated tools can require significant time and coordination, but these efforts ultimately enhance workflow efficiency and simulation outcomes.

Job description

Build simulation models that help teams explore scenarios, constraints, uncertainty, and operational tradeoffs.

Impact
  • Help teams test decisions before they are made in the real world.
  • Model systems where timing, capacity, resources, and uncertainty matter.
  • Turn scenarios into useful planning and decision tools.
What you'll do
  • Develop discrete-event, agent-based, Monte Carlo, or optimization-linked simulations.
  • Work with domain experts to validate assumptions and model behavior.
  • Integrate simulations into analytical and product workflows.
  • Communicate uncertainty, sensitivity, and tradeoffs clearly.
What we're looking for
  • 4+ years of simulation, operations research, systems modeling, or applied analytics experience.
  • Strong Python, statistics, and modeling fundamentals.
  • Experience translating real-world processes into useful computational models.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Comfort working with ambiguous mission, data, and engineering problems.
  • Strong written communication and ability to explain technical decisions to technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred experience
  • AWS experience is a plus, especially secure cloud, GovCloud, serverless, data, or AI services.
  • AI, machine learning, LLM, agentic workflow, or decision intelligence experience is a plus.
  • Experience in defense, government, manufacturing, aerospace, logistics, or other mission-critical environments is a plus.

Anautics evaluates candidates based on role-relevant skills, judgment, ownership, and ability to work in high-trust environments. AWS and AI experience are strong pluses across this hiring plan.
