The Systems and Mechanical Engineering team is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer for our New Castle office at the TA Instruments business unit. We contribute to ensuring the safety of food and water, such as precise PFAS measurement, and advancing new materials and technology, including batteries for electric vehicles, aerospace and semiconductors.   Working in the R&D organization at Waters Material Science Division.  You will have a unique opportunity to impact a broad range of industries, including Electric Cars, 3D Printing, Energy Storage and Batteries, Pharmaceutical, Polymers, etc., developing life-changing and innovative products by pushing the boundaries of materials science.   You will play a key role in driving innovation and developing concepts for new measurement technologies in material characterization, working with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers. This role emphasizes rapid risk retirement through fast prototyping and concept evaluation, supporting priority new product development and research projects, and collaborating across business functions to deliver solutions that meet market and customer needs.Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to
  • Conceive and develop concepts to meet the customer requirements
  • Prototype and evaluate concepts rapidly, identify risks early, and develop targeted test plans for efficient mitigation and rapid development cycles
  • Communicate status, results, conclusions, and next steps with clarity, highlighting impact and actionable plans.
  • Integrate mechanical, electronic, control, and coding components into prototypes to accelerate concept evaluation and enable rapid iterations for efficient product development.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews and provide feedback where appropriate in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
  • Work with project and product management leads on technical ideation, risk retirement strategies, and solutions
  • Work closely with the Engineers and cross-functional team to develop product designs
  • Communicate concerns/suggestions/improvements relating to engineering concerns and product life cycle management
  • Ensure quality of documentation of mechanical design, including BOM, drawings, and procedures
  • Propose and conduct simulations where relevant
The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the following

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree, 5-7 years of experience, ideally in an industrial research and development environment

Experience:

  • Prototype design, test, and analysis
  • Proven ability to integrate multidisciplinary elements into prototypes for evaluation and validation.
  • Root cause analysis methodology
  • Extensive experience with 3D modelling (Unigraphics / Solid Works / or Equivalent Tools)
  • PDM and change process experience
  • GD&T knowledge and experience

Skills:

  • Adept at originating and interpreting engineering designs and concepts
  • Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects
  • Understanding of principles of physics and mechanical engineering disciplines (thermodynamics, structural mechanics and fluid dynamics principles)
  • Experience of furnace and heater design, transducer design and operation, basic controls principles
  • Strong Materials Science knowledgeand familiar with testing principles and techniques
  • Ability to work independently and in teams to design and execute experiments and test plans, review designs and brainstorm ideas
  • Proficient in statistical data analysis, technical presentation, and clear communication of results.
  • Well-versed in simulation tools for mechanical and thermal problems, preferably Ansys/Matlab
  • Proven Design for Manufacture experience in assembly
  • Hands-on experience of fabrication/assembly techniques and working with machinists
