Senior Middleware Engineer information

What is a senior middleware engineer?

Senior Middleware Engineers are experienced IT professionals who specialize in designing, implementing, and managing middleware solutions that connect different software applications, databases, and services within an organization. They play a critical role in ensuring seamless communication and data exchange between systems, often working with technologies such as application servers, message brokers, API gateways, and integration platforms. Senior Middleware Engineers also provide technical leadership, troubleshoot complex system issues, and help optimize performance and security in middleware environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior middleware engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Middleware Engineer, you need advanced knowledge of middleware platforms, integration architecture, and distributed systems, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as IBM WebSphere, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Apache Kafka, and experience with automation and monitoring solutions is essential, along with relevant certifications. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and a collaborative mindset set top candidates apart in this role. These skills ensure reliable system integration, efficient troubleshooting, and effective cross-functional teamwork in complex IT environments.

What are some typical challenges a senior middleware engineer faces when integrating new technologies into existing enterprise systems?

Senior Middleware Engineers often encounter challenges when integrating new technologies, such as ensuring compatibility with legacy systems, maintaining data security, and minimizing downtime during deployment. They must carefully plan migrations and develop custom solutions to bridge gaps between different platforms. Effective communication with cross-functional teams, such as developers, system administrators, and security specialists, is essential to anticipate potential issues and implement seamless integrations. Staying current with evolving middleware trends also helps address these challenges proactively.

Sound like you? Want to grow, develop, build meaningful relationships, and create value for the communities around us?

  • Strong problem solvers who think beyond the immediate ticket
  • Clear communicators who can explain technical decisions in plain language
  • Motivated by quality, scalability, and long-term maintainability
  • Continuous learners who stay current as the platform evolves

  • You will design, build, and maintain custom Salesforce solutions using Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, and platform automation
  • Translate business and functional requirements into thoughtful technical designs
  • Partner closely with solution architects, consultants, and analysts to shape technical direction

  • Participate in and lead code reviews focused on quality, performance, and sustainability
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across environments and releases
  • Support deployment, release management, and CI/CD practices
  • Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to clients and internal teams

  • You will be hands-on. You will write code. You will be trusted to make decisions and expected to stand behind them.

What technical experience you must have

5+ years of Salesforce development experience, ideally in a consulting or client-facing environment
Strong, hands-on experience with:
Apex
Lightning Web Components
Salesforce automation and security model
Experience designing and supporting Salesforce integrations
Strong understanding of governor limits, performance considerations, and data modeling

Preferred experience
These are not required, but they are highly valued:
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and release management tools

  • Exposure to large-scale or enterprise Salesforce environments

Certifications
  • Salesforce Platform Developer I required
  • Platform Developer II preferred
  • Additional Salesforce certifications are a plus and supported

What success looks like at Demand Chain

Why Demand Chain
You will work on thoughtful, complex Salesforce implementations
You will have a real voice in technical decisions
You will collaborate with experienced consultants and architects
You will be part of a team that values integrity, accountability, and follow-through
