Position Summary

Victaulic is seeking a highly experienced Senior Metallurgical Engineer to provide technical leadership and handson metallurgical expertise within our Metallurgical Laboratory. This role is heavily handson and labfocused, while also supporting manufacturing operations, product performance, and complex materials and process investigations that extend beyond the laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

Failure Analysis, Corrosion & Materials Engineering:

Lead advanced failure analysis investigations involving mechanical overload, fatigue, fracture, wear, and manufacturingrelated defects.

Evaluate corrosion mechanisms affecting piping systems, including general, galvanic, pitting, crevice, MIC, erosioncorrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

Develop root cause conclusions and support effective corrective and preventive actions.

Manufacturing, Welding & Field Application Support:

Provide metallurgical and materials engineering support for manufacturing, quality, and product engineering functions.

Support welding and joining processes, including evaluation of weld quality, microstructures, and weldrelated failures.

Demonstrate familiarity with welding processes including MIG and TIG.

Apply metallurgical expertise beyond the laboratory through interaction with suppliers and manufacturing locations to support materials, processing, and performance challenges.

Metallurgical Laboratory & Testing Responsibilities:

Operate metallurgical and analytical equipment including SEM, EDS, LIBS, and optical microscopy.

Evaluate and report mechanical properties, with particular emphasis on hardness and tensile properties.

Characterize and evaluate primarily steels, cast iron, copperbased alloys, and other alloy systems.

Evaluate heat treatments, microstructures, phase transformations, coatings, and structure-property relationships.

Prepare clear, detailed technical documentation and reports.

Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as a senior technical authority within the Metallurgical Laboratory.

Mentor laboratory technicians and lessexperienced engineers.

Collaborate crossfunctionally with other groups such as Product Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, Global Supply Chain, and Operations.

Support continuous improvement of laboratory methods, material standards, and technical best practices.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).

Minimum of 10 years of progressive metallurgical experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.

Strong background in piping systems, metallic materials, corrosion, and failure analysis.

Demonstrated handson proficiency with metallography, mechanical testing, SEM, EDS, and LIBS.

Ability to communicate technical findings clearly through written reports and presentations.

Willingness and ability to travel approximately 15% to support materialsrelated activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science.

Experience with NACE / AMPP corrosion guidance and industry best practices relevant to oil and gas, fire protection, and industrial service environments.

Experience supporting casting, forging, machining, heat treatment, coating, or welding operations.

Familiarity with ASTM, AWWA, ISO, and AMPP/NACE standards.

Previous experience mentoring or technically guiding others.

Work Environment

This position is based at Victaulic's World Headquarters in Easton, PA and involves significant handson laboratory work, collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams, and periodic domestic or international travel (approximately 15%)
