Senior Medical Technologist

As a Sr. Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in accurate and timely laboratory testing that supports the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions. You will operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, analyze and verify test results, adhere to quality assurance and regulatory standards, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.

A typical day for a Sr. Medical Technologist may include:

  • Managing the technical operational aspects of the department for efficient, cost effective and timely production of medical diagnostic test results on body fluids by automated and manual methods,
  • Assuming responsibility for procedural and system controls, problem solving, teaching and supervision,
  • Producing medical diagnostic test results in an efficient and cost-effective manner for stat and routine specimens,
  • Maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing instruments and lab equipment if possible,
  • Maintaining all necessary QC, QA and repair records required by accreditation agencies,
  • Verifying patient test orders from physician orders and enters orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS),
  • Assisting in clerical duties as needed,
  • Assisting in the training of new employees and students,
  • Segregating laboratory wastes according to established policies,
  • Working on special projects as requested by Director,
  • Applying the knowledge and skills necessary to assess data reflective of each patient's status and provide acre appropriate to the age of the patient served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric,

  • Bachelor s degree in medical technology or equivalent
  • Graduate from an approved School of Medical Technology
  • MT certification from ASCP or HEW equivalent
  • Six years working experience including one to three years supervisor experience preferred
