Description


Position Overview:

As an integral member of a cross-functional team, collaborate with Project Engineering, Industrial Design, and Factory Engineering to design and develop new fitness products. Perform a variety of technical assignments to support various projects through the Key Technology (KT) and New Product Development (NPD) processes led by a project engineer. Prepare CAD models and drawings for various components and assemblies. Ensure compliance with product specifications, internal and external standards, and testing requirements. Complete document control tasks relating to the creation, maintenance, organization and improvement of technical related documentation. Conduct product and component testing to validate designs. This is a non-supervisory position.


Responsibilities:


Personnel:

Work with Project Engineer, Industrial Design, Factory Engineer, and other members of the product development team to translate customer requirements into engineering product specifications.

Frequent communication with North America and Asia-based project team members to ensure alignment on technical issues and project deliverables.


Research & Development:

Research and develop engineering test specifications

Conduct patent searches and create/submit invention disclosures


Product Development:

Create CAD models and drawings for components and assemblies for products from prototype phases through production.

Hold technical design reviews and other engineering meetings to support product development

Develop and maintain estimated tooling/cost estimates

Develop and maintain a structured BOM (Bill Of Materials)

Coordinate with factory engineering to ensure the product is manufacturable and meets the costing requirements defined in the product specification

Determine and maximize container utilization and package size

Develop DFMEAs, complete strength and fatigue analysis of all design proposals to ensure the product meets the design requirements. Conduct testing to validate strength and fatigue analysis.

Meet all project milestones and deadlines


Production Transition support:

Review quality and inspection data, perform product sample reviews and make design decisions, support value-add / value-engineer opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiency

Support and troubleshoot the introduction of new products into mass production, developing functional requirements and test plans.

Assist Asia-based engineering and factory manufacturing teams on design requirements

Requirements


Education:

BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field required 


Experience:

7+ years of mechanical design experience

Experience w/ plastic injection molding a plus

Experience designing consumer products preferred


Other Requirements:

Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

Strong mechanical aptitude, with hobbies or projects showcasing your passion for design

Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals

Ability and desire to mentor less experienced team members
