What is a senior marketing manager?

Senior Marketing Managers are experienced professionals responsible for developing and executing high-level marketing strategies to drive a company's growth and brand awareness. They oversee marketing teams, manage budgets, and analyze market trends to identify new opportunities. Senior Marketing Managers also collaborate with other departments, such as sales and product development, to ensure cohesive and effective campaigns. Their role often involves leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making to achieve business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior marketing manager?

To thrive as a Senior Marketing Manager, you need expertise in strategic marketing, campaign management, and data analysis, typically supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing or a related field. Proficiency with digital marketing platforms (such as Google Analytics, HubSpot, and CRM systems) and relevant certifications like Google Ads or HubSpot Inbound Marketing is valuable. Outstanding leadership, communication, and project management skills help drive team performance and stakeholder alignment. These capabilities are crucial for developing effective marketing strategies, achieving organizational goals, and maintaining a competitive edge.

What are some common challenges faced by senior marketing managers when leading cross-functional campaigns?

Senior Marketing Managers often collaborate with teams from sales, product development, design, and analytics to execute integrated campaigns. A common challenge is aligning diverse goals, timelines, and communication styles across departments, which requires strong project management and negotiation skills. Additionally, ensuring consistent messaging and brand voice while tailoring strategies for different channels can be complex. Successful Senior Marketing Managers prioritize clear communication, regular check-ins, and adaptability to keep projects on track and achieve campaign objectives.

Job description

Senior Marketing Manager
Location:
USA, remote with preference for candidates in Metro-Atlanta, Georgia or Twin Cities, Minnesota
Salary: $110,000 - $120,000 p.a. Full-time equivalent, dependent on experience
Basis: Permanent, Full-time, part-time or flexible
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the USA

The role

We are looking for an experienced senior marketing manager to join the Raspberry Pi Foundation's US team.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will develop and deliver marketing strategies to increase the reach and impact of our educational products and programs across the US. You will be responsible for increasing awareness of what we offer, generating demand, and supporting customer acquisition through marketing campaigns, media relations, storytelling, events, and more.

You will work closely with our global Marketing & Communications team, which is based in the UK, leveraging their capabilities and expertise, ensuring that our activities in the US are aligned with the global brand strategy, and ensuring that the US perspective is contributing to the development of future strategy. You will lead and manage a small team of specialists and you will take responsibility for the communications and marketing budget and relationships with contractors and vendors.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree or professional qualification, along with significant experience in a senior marketing role, ideally in the education sector. You will be comfortable developing and implementing strategies, enjoying both setting direction and making things happen.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead the communications and marketing function in a rapidly growing US nonprofit that is part of a global movement to advance computing and AI education for young people.

We work hard to make sure that the Foundation is a place where everyone is supported to do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you're the right person for the job, we'll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you'll be joining an exceptional team of people who care about our mission and each other.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the communications and marketing strategy for the Raspberry Pi Foundation North America, raising our profile and reputation with key audiences.
  • Lead the development and delivery of marketing strategies and campaigns for the Foundation's products in the US (including Code Club, Experience CS, and Experience AI), increasing awareness, generating demand, and supporting customer acquisition.
  • Develop and deliver the Foundation's US events strategy, creating meaningful in person opportunities to engage with partners, school districts, educators, and young people.
  • Work closely with the global Marketing & Communications team, ensuring that US activities are aligned with the global brand strategy and contributing a US perspective to the continuing development of that strategy in future.
  • Use data to measure performance, inform decision-making, and improve effectiveness of our communications and marketing activities. Gather feedback and insights that can be used to drive improvements in our products.
  • Lead and manage a small team of specialists (initially one role, but set to grow), providing them with the clarity and support to enable them to do great work.
  • Manage the US communications and marketing budget, and manage relationships with external agencies, contractors, and vendors, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Learning, Customer Success, Product, and Fundraising teams to achieve shared goals.

Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they have some, but not necessarily all, of the experience and personal attributes listed here.

  • A degree or professional qualification in communications and marketing or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in a senior marketing role, ideally in the education sector.
  • A track record of developing and delivering marketing strategies and campaigns that drive awareness, demand, and adoption, ideally across multiple products or programs at once.
  • Experience of developing and delivering events programmes that engage with target audiences and communities.
  • A good understanding of school systems in the US and experience marketing to educators, school leaders, and districts.
  • Experience using data and market insights to measure performance and ROI, and to make evidence-informed recommendations for improvement.
  • Experience managing and developing people.
  • Experience managing budgets and relationships with external agencies, contractors, and vendors, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the organisation externally and build rapport with a wide range of audiences.
  • A collaborative approach, with experience working closely with global or cross-functional teams to align local activity with wider organisational strategy and brand.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the USA.

About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is an independent nonprofit with a global mission to enable young people to realize their full potential through the power of computer science and digital technologies. In the US we operate through Raspberry Pi Foundation North America which is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

We empower schools to teach computing and AI literacy through free curricula, classroom resources, purpose built software tools, and professional development for teachers. We inspire young people to become tech creators through the world's largest networks of coding clubs. We undertake original research that informs our work and which we use to advance the field of computer science education more broadly.

All of our resources and learning experiences are available for anyone to use at no cost. We are particularly focused on creating opportunities for young people who experience educational disadvantage and those who come from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in technology industries.

Over the past decade, we have supported hundreds of thousands of educators and tens of millions of students. We have teams in six countries (India, Ireland, Kenya, South Africa, the UK and US) and partnerships with mission-aligned non-profit organisations in over 60 countries.

We are at the forefront of the global educational movement to expand access to computer science education and AI literacy. You can learn more about our work in our latest Annual Report.

Benefits

In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a range of benefits for all of our colleagues, including:

  • Paid time off. In addition to public holidays, full-time employees in the US receive 15 days of paid time off, plus 3 additional days of paid time off for the company-wide closure at the end of each year.
  • Retirement Savings Plan (401)(k). We match 100% of employee contributions up to the first 5%.
  • Private Healthcare. We provide private healthcare (including dental and vision) for you and for your dependents through United Healthcare and Guardian.
  • Flexible working. We have clear policies to provide flexibility over when and where you work, helping you balance work responsibilities with the rest of your life.

Further background checks will be made at regular intervals thereafter.
