Job description

Within GSK's Pharmaceuticals business, Global Marketing directors (GMD) are expected to generate Long Term Value for GSK and ultimately improve the lives of patients around the world. They lead the development of insight-driven global product strategies and plans, deliver ambitious long-range forecasts, enable outstanding launches, and ensure excellent customer experience in partnership with co-create markets through creating omnichannel content

The focus of this role is the launch of a new new pharmaceutical product in an orphan oncology indication. Effectively resolving the high complexity and ambiguity in shorter than usual timelines is critical for a major asset and a best in-industry launch.

The Global Marketing Director, Oncology will be a core member of the Global Marketing Team, responsible for shaping and executing the global brand and launch strategy. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Marketing, this individual will translate brand strategy into launch-ready commercial execution - campaign materials, HCP/KEE engagement models, and affiliate-facing tools and guidance - while building the foundational thinking for a potential later expansion into a larger indication.

This is a highly cross-functional, individually accountable role. It does not carry direct reports, but requires a marketer who can operate with significant autonomy, drive projects end-to-end, and represent Global Marketing credibly with senior internal stakeholders (Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Global Insights), external experts, and key affiliates (US, EU5, Japan, China).

Key Responsibilities

Launch Strategy & Execution

  • Contribute to and evolve elements of the global brand and launch plan, translating the overarching brand strategy set with the Senior Director into actionable marketing programs and timelines.
  • Co-lead the development of core global campaign materials - positioning, messaging architecture, HCP and patient-facing content, sales aids, and digital assets - ensuring scientific accuracy, medical/legal/regulatory (MLR) compliance, and consistency of brand voice.
  • In partnership with the Strategy & Operations director, build and maintain the global launch readiness plan and toolkit, ensuring affiliates have the strategic rationale, materials, and training support needed for local adaptation and execution.

KEE & External Expert Engagement

  • Manage the commercial dimension of interactions with Key External Experts (KEEs), including planning and running the Commercial Strategic Council (or equivalent advisory forum) to pressure-test brand strategy, messaging, and launch readiness.
  • Build and maintain a network of relevant oncology/GIST KEEs, ensuring compliant, well-documented, and strategically purposeful engagement aligned with Medical Affairs activities.
  • Synthesize KEE and advisory board input into actionable recommendations for brand strategy, campaign development, and affiliate guidance.

Affiliate & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary Global Marketing point of contact for key affiliates (US, EU5, Japan, China + regions) on brand strategy, campaign materials, and launch execution - balancing global consistency with local market needs.
  • Drive affiliate engagement strategy and input into affiliate operational planning
  • Partner closely with US colleagues in particular, leveraging (or building) deep understanding of US oncology launch dynamics, given the market's outsized commercial and precedent-setting importance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Market Access/Pricing, Regulatory, Global Insights & Analytics, and Commercial Operations to ensure integrated, launch-ready plans.
  • Drive culture of trust, respect, transparency, and accountability.

Insights, Planning & Governance

  • Manage relevant agency relationships (creative, medical education, market research) to ensure high-quality, on-time, on-budget deliverables.
  • Track and report on launch KPIs and readiness milestones, proactively flagging risks and proposing mitigations
  • Partner with Insights to deliver Global Forecast aligned to strategy, generating recommended assumptions and strategic inputs
  • Elucidate required SG&A and commercial model to optimise asset performance in Global markets
  • Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation for assigned workstreams.
Key Relationships
  • Internal: Senior Director Global Marketing (manager), VP MCL, Director of Strategy & Operations, Global Medical Affairs, Global Market Access, Regulatory Affairs, Global Insights & Analytics
  • External: KEEs and advisory boards (via the Commercial Strategic Council and related forums), creative/media/market research agencies
  • Affiliates: US, EU5, Japan, China and regional marketing and cross-functional teams
Candidate Profile

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced scientific/business degree preferred.
  • 5 years of Marketing experience with at least one global launch is required - this does not need to be launch-leadership experience, but candidates should have played a substantive role on at least one oncology (ideally rare/specialty tumor) launch team, with exposure to the full pre-launch-to-launch lifecycle.
  • Experience engaging external experts/KEEs in a commercial capacity (advisory boards, steering committees, congress engagement) is highly valued.
  • Preferably 8-10+ years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotech marketing experience, including meaningful time in oncology and multiple launches.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Global or international marketing experience, including working with or through affiliates, is a strong plus.
  • Prior US pharmaceutical marketing or launch experience strongly preferred.

Skills & Attributes

  • High degree of self-direction: comfortable owning ambiguous, cross-functional workstreams without close supervision or a supporting team.
  • Strong strategic thinking paired with hands-on executional rigor - equally comfortable shaping positioning and building campaign materials.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with credibility to engage senior leaders, external experts, and affiliate teams as a peer.
  • Strong analytical and insight-synthesis capabilities; able to translate data and expert input into clear commercial recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to senior governance forums.
  • Understanding of specialty oncology treatment landscapes is a plus, though not required.
What Success Looks Like
  • A launch-ready brand strategy and materials suite delivered on time for the launch window.
  • A well-functioning Commercial Strategic Council providing consistent, high-quality strategic input from KEEs.
  • Strong alignment and satisfaction from US, EU5, Japan, and China affiliates on global materials, tools, and support.
