What is a senior manager?
What does a senior manager do?
Senior managers plan and direct a group of individuals within an organization or department. The role of a senior manager is to supervise those individuals to ensure that business operations are running efficiently and that each individual’s performance meets company and industry standards. Responsibilities of a senior manager may include managing priorities, guiding direct reports on various projects, managing budgets for your department, approving human resources requests, and communicating with other company leaders. Your duties as a senior manager may be the same from day to day, but you should be ready to take on additional duties with little notice.

What are some common challenges faced by senior managers when leading cross-functional teams?
What is the difference between Senior Manager vs Project Manager?
| Aspect | Senior Manager | Project Manager |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's degree, often MBA, with extensive experience | Bachelor's degree, PMP or similar certification often preferred |
| Work Environment | Oversees multiple teams or departments, strategic planning | Manages specific projects, coordinates tasks and resources |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Common in corporate, finance, tech, and large organizations | Used across industries for project execution in construction, IT, marketing |
The main difference is that a Senior Manager oversees broader organizational functions and strategic initiatives, while a Project Manager focuses on executing specific projects within scope, time, and budget. Senior Managers typically have more leadership responsibilities and a wider scope of influence.

What you will do
- Acquire and apply specialist-level knowledge of auditor independence regulations, including those established by CPA Code of Conduct, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and International Ethics Standards Board of Accountants
- Interact with our partners and firm professionals to provide Independence policy guidance and to resolve questions regarding the application of professional Independence standards with respect to personal independence matters, including financial relationships, employment relationships, commercial activities, and certain firm related independence matters, such as business relationships. Â
- Manage certain Firm independence processes, including the independence clearance, business relationships assessment, permissibility of services review and other ad hoc independence related topics.

- Preparing technical alerts, guidance, training materials and other deliverables for distribution across the Firm.
- Manage projects on an ad hoc and on-going basis; identify process enhancements and improvements
At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.

- Experience responding to complex inquiries, performing research, analyzing data, identifying potential issues, making a decision, and documenting results/findings to support conclusions
- Ability to apply subject matter specialization to train stakeholders regarding independence policies, processes and information systems
- Strong interpersonal skills are required to supervise and train less experienced personnel and to manage key relationships with partners and staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail and ability to generate high quality deliverables
