Job description

Entry-Level Machinist / Machinist Apprentice

Location: Florida
Job Type: Part-Time with transition to Full-Time
Starting Pay: $20.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience
90-Day Performance Evaluation

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Machinist / Machinist Apprentice to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with foundational machining knowledge who wants to develop their skills under the guidance of an experienced machinist.

The successful candidate will work closely with our senior machinist, learning our machining processes, equipment, tooling, techniques, and quality requirements as part of a planned transition before the senior machinist's retirement.

This position will initially be part-time and is expected to transition into a full-time position as the candidate develops their capabilities and our current machinist approaches retirement.

We are looking for someone interested in building a long-term career with our company—not simply filling a temporary position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with an experienced machinist to learn established machining processes, techniques, and best practices.
  • Set up and operate CNC machining equipment under appropriate supervision.
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including vertical and horizontal lathes.
  • Develop testing aides according to drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and basic machining specifications.
  • Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining methods with guidance from the senior machinist.
  • Inspect completed work to verify dimensional accuracy and workmanship.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe machining and work areas.
  • Properly maintain machines, tooling, fixtures, and measuring equipment.
  • Follow company quality procedures, safety requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machining and tooling issues.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge necessary to independently perform machining responsibilities as the position transitions to full-time.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Basic knowledge or training in CNC machine operation.
  • Basic knowledge or experience operating manual lathes and machining equipment.
  • Familiarity with vertical and horizontal machining/turning operations.
  • Ability to read basic mechanical drawings and understand dimensions and tolerances.
  • Familiarity with common precision measuring tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to learn from an experienced machinist.
  • Dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
  • Ability to work independently as skills and experience develop.

Preferred

  • Technical school, vocational school, machining certificate, or equivalent hands-on training.
  • Previous experience in a machine shop, manufacturing, aviation, automotive, or other precision-machining environment.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming, setup, or G-code.
  • Experience working with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and other common aerospace or industrial materials.
  • Knowledge of close-tolerance machining and inspection practices.
  • Knowledge of HAAS Visual Programming System(VPS) is a plus. Further training at HAAS facilities available to the right candidate.

Entry-level candidates who have the appropriate technical education and a strong willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Training & Career Development

This position is specifically designed to provide an opportunity to learn from an experienced machinist before his retirement. The selected candidate will receive hands-on training and increasing responsibility as their skills develop.

Our goal is for this individual to become capable of independently handling the machining responsibilities currently performed by our senior machinist and transition into a full-time, long-term member of our team.

Compensation

  • Starting pay of $20.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience, training, and demonstrated machining ability.
  • Performance and compensation evaluation after 90 days.
  • Opportunity for increased responsibility and compensation as skills and capabilities develop.

Full-Time Benefits

Upon transitioning to eligible full-time employment, benefits include:

  • Employer-sponsored health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Disability insurance
  • Paid time off (PTO)

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate does not need to know everything on day one. We are looking for someone who has a solid mechanical foundation, understands the basics of machining, and is eager to learn.

The right person will be dependable, mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and interested in developing into a skilled machinist. Because this position is intended to eventually assume responsibilities from a retiring team member, a willingness to learn, retain knowledge, and take increasing ownership of the machining operation is essential.

We offer an opportunity to learn directly from an experienced machinist while developing the skills necessary for a stable, long-term career in precision machining.
