From major map updates and new gameplay spaces to long-term improvements across the battle royale ecosystem, your work will directly influence how players navigate, fight, rotate, and compete. This role requires a deep understanding of large-scale multiplayer design, player behavior, and competitive gameplay. You will own level content from concept through ship and beyond, using playtesting, player feedback, telemetry, and design expertise to create engaging experiences that support the strategic depth, pacing, and competitive integrity that define Apex Legends. Working closely with the Level Design Director and partnering across Design, Environment Art, Engineering, and Production, you will solve complex gameplay challenges, elevate the quality of Apex, and help shape the future of one of gaming's most successful live-service franchises.
Responsibilities
  • Own the gameplay quality of large-scale battle royale spaces, seasonal map updates, and limited-time experiences, shaping player flow, combat pacing, rotations, traversal, sightlines, cover distribution, and risk/reward opportunities.
  • Design, build, and iterate on gameplay spaces from concept through ship, delivering content that supports both immediate player engagement and long-term map health.
  • Prototype, playtest, and refine environments using player feedback, telemetry, and live-game data to continuously improve gameplay outcomes before and after launch.
  • Collaborate closely with Environment Art, Systems Design, and other cross-functional partners to ensure gameplay, visual direction, and evolving game systems remain aligned throughout development.
  • Contribute to design reviews, advocate for strong gameplay fundamentals, and help establish quality standards that elevate level design across the team.
  • Mentor and support other designers through collaboration, coaching, and knowledge sharing, helping grow both individual capability and overall team effectiveness.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional level design experience with multiple shipped titles, including multiplayer or live-service games.
  • Proven experience designing and owning large-scale competitive multiplayer environments, from concept and blockout through implementation, iteration, and polish.
  • Deep understanding of spatial gameplay design, including player flow, combat pacing, traversal, encounter composition, readability, sightline management, and risk/reward decision making.
  • Battle Royale design experience, including POI development, drop strategy, rotations, map evolution, and maintaining long-term gameplay health within a live-service ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive design direction independently, using playtesting, player feedback, telemetry, and analytics to inform decisions and improve player outcomes.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of partnering effectively across Design, Art, Engineering, and Production to deliver high-quality player experiences.
