Senior Labview Test Engineer information

What is a senior LabVIEW test engineer?

Senior LabVIEW Test Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and maintain automated test systems using National Instruments' LabVIEW software. They are responsible for creating test scripts, debugging hardware and software issues, and ensuring product quality through rigorous testing processes. In addition to technical expertise in LabVIEW, they often lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional groups to deliver robust testing solutions. Their work is critical in industries such as electronics, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing, where automated testing and data acquisition are essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior LabVIEW test engineer?

To excel as a Senior LabVIEW Test Engineer, you need deep expertise in LabVIEW programming, test automation, electronics, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with National Instruments hardware, test management software, and certifications such as NI Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Architect (CLA) are often required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication set outstanding engineers apart. These skills ensure the efficient design, implementation, and troubleshooting of automated test systems critical for product quality and reliability.

What are some common challenges faced by senior LabVIEW test engineers when working on complex automated test systems?

Senior LabVIEW Test Engineers often encounter challenges related to integrating legacy hardware with modern software, maintaining code scalability for evolving test requirements, and ensuring system reliability under tight project deadlines. They frequently troubleshoot issues that arise from hardware-software communication or performance bottlenecks in large-scale test sequences. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as hardware engineers and quality assurance, is key to overcoming these challenges and delivering robust automated test solutions.

What is the difference between Senior Labview Test Engineer vs Labview Test Engineer?

  • Instrument, test, and evaluate batteries both on and off vehicles to support product development and validation activities.

  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, identify root causes, and partner with Design, Manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve development issues.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including component drawings, weldments, hydraulic schematics, and electrical schematics.

  • Hands-on experience working in a shop, lab, test, or vehicle development environment.

  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or battery-related systems.

  • Ability to perform testing, collect data, document findings, and support validation activities.

  • Comfortable working directly on vehicles, equipment, components, or test systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills, Experience & Abilities
  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical systems used in electric vehicle drivetrains, including power systems, gearboxes or transmissions, braking systems, electric motors, motor tuning, and vehicle controllers.

  • Experience using data acquisition and analysis tools such as SOMAT, LabVIEW, Vector CANalyzer, or similar systems.

  • Knowledge of CAN communication protocols and vehicle network diagnostics.

  • Practical understanding of validation processes, physical and virtual testing methods, and measurement equipment.

  • Experience working in a product development or vehicle testing environment.

  • Ability to analyze measured test data, identify trends, and draw clear conclusions from results.

  • Experience using product lifecycle management or requirements management tools, such as Teamcenter, Polarion, or similar platforms.
