Job description

Who We Are:

Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. We're #2.

Since 2009, we've been on a mission to bring sustainable fashion to everyone. Named one of Fast Company's Brands That Matter and winning a Best Carbon Footprint award, we have big goals like being Climate Positive by 2025, Circular by 2030, and pushing the whole industry forward along the way. Our work has gotten love in Drapers and Sourcing Journal, and TIME wrote about how great our CEO, Hali Borenstein, is. Basically, we're saving the Earth and looking damn good doing it.

We're a global brand with 50+ stores (and counting) around the world, and our own sustainable factory in LA. We innovate across categories like accessories, swimwear, and sleepwear, and we reach millions of people with campaigns like this, this and this.

None of this work is possible without the incredible people behind it. We're a mission-based company that invests in an inclusive culture, so we can innovate together and ensure everyone has the space to grow, thrive, and belong.

And starting right now, we want to do all that with you.

Work Location/ Schedule: Vernon, CA | Hybrid 4 Days In Office

Assistant Controller

We are looking for an Assistant Controller who is ready to grow with us, someone who brings broad controllership depth, thrives in a complex operational environment, and wants to do the most meaningful work of their career at a brand they can be proud of. The right candidate has seen what it looks like when a high-growth consumer brand steps into its next stage of financial maturity and accountability, and knows how to build the infrastructure, rigor, and reporting standards that stage demands. Depending on the depth of experience and background a candidate brings, the scope and seniority of this role has room to reflect that.

This role sits at the intersection of technical rigor and real business impact. You will own financial reporting integrity, support a reporting environment with significant regulatory and audit complexity, and bring structure and leadership to one of our most operationally nuanced areas: global inventory and cost accounting. If you are looking for a role where your fingerprints are on the entire accounting function, not just one corner of it, this is it.

What You'll Do:

Inventory and Cost Accounting

  • Own global inventory valuation across raw materials, WIP, finished goods, retail, and in-transit inventory, including accurate capitalization of landed costs across a multi-country supply chain
  • Oversee standard costing methodology, BOM governance, and cost integrity across product categories, with clear gross margin analysis and variance visibility for leadership
  • Manage the Allowance for Inventory Reserve process and maintain strong controls around obsolescence and inventory aging

Financial Reporting, Controls, and Compliance

  • Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting across the full general ledger
  • Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, flux analyses, and management reports for the CFO and senior leadership
  • Research and document technical accounting positions on complex or emerging issues, assess the impact of new standards, and support the preparation and review of external financial filings in compliance with US GAAP
  • Build and maintain a strong internal controls environment, implement and document accounting policies, and drive SOX-ready infrastructure across the accounting function
  • Lead or support the annual financial audit process and serve as a primary relationship owner with external auditors

Process Improvement and Systems

  • Own the roadmap for NetSuite optimization and scalable close processes, partnering with IT and operations to build the systems and control structures a growing global business requires
  • Build executive-facing dashboards and KPI reporting that translate accounting data into clear, actionable insight for the CFO and leadership team
  • Drive standardization of accounting policies and procedures across entities and geographies as the business scales internationally

Cross-Functional Partnership and Team Leadership

  • Build trusted partnerships across FP&A, Supply Chain, Production, Planning, and DC Operations, serving as a finance voice that is credible, collaborative, and commercially minded
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, creating a high-performing function where people grow and the work scales with the business
  • Show up as a peer leader across the finance and accounting organization, someone directors and cross-functional partners want in the room and can rely on
  • Support new market launches and evolving distribution models with the financial structure and foresight they require
What You'll Bring:
  • 8 to 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in a senior leadership role
  • CPA required; MBA a plus
  • Demonstrated experience operating within or supporting a complex regulatory and external reporting environment, including familiarity with SEC reporting requirements and SOX compliance
  • A mix of public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier) and private industry experience strongly preferred
  • Deep expertise in inventory and cost accounting within retail, apparel, e-commerce, or CPG, including standard costing, landed cost accounting, and variance analysis across a high-SKU, multi-entity environment
  • Proven experience in multi-currency, international manufacturing environments with cross-border inventory flows
  • Advanced ERP experience required with NetSuite strongly preferred; expert-level Excel proficiency and experience building complex financial models for large datasets
  • Strong people manager with a proven track record of developing accounting teams and driving cross-functional alignment
  • Self-motivated, highly collaborative, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast-paced environment

Who You Are

  • You have unquestionable integrity and hold yourself and your team to a high standard
  • You are a strong communicator who can translate complex accounting matters clearly for any audience
  • You spot what needs fixing before anyone asks, and you fix it
  • You lead with curiosity and humility, collaborating without ego, building trust quickly, and making the people around you better
  • You are energized by complexity, not slowed down by it

Why This Role Is Exciting: This is a chance to step into a high-impact leadership role at a brand that is scaling intentionally and building something lasting. You will have executive visibility, broad ownership across the accounting function, and a genuine seat at the table on financial reporting strategy and business performance. You will be joining a finance and accounting leadership team that holds itself to a high standard and genuinely enjoys working together. Cultural fit and peer collaboration are not afterthoughts here, they are part of how we evaluate every leader we bring in.

For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $180,000 – $200,000 + 15% bonus eligibility, depending on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal compensation equity.

This role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a range of factors, including company performance, department goals, and individual contributions. Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and are determined at the company's discretion.

Please note that compensation decisions are made thoughtfully and may vary from the listed range to reflect individual circumstances and evolving business needs. Our total rewards package also includes benefits, perks, and opportunities for growth that contribute to overall compensation.

  • You'll get access to fertility care support through Carrot, and up to a $5,000 USD reimbursement for related fertility expenses after 1 year of employment.
  • We care about the causes our employees care about so we donate to community efforts on a yearly basis.
  • We offer a clothing discount, culture events (like our annual Ref Values week and Volunteer Time Off), you know, all the meaningful and fun stuff!

Reformation is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the world we want to live in. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status—in accordance with applicable international, federal, state, and local laws.

If you require accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know. We're here to ensure you have what you need to show up as your best self.

Still don't know if you should apply? We get it—studies show that many women and individuals from historically underrepresented communities hold back from applying unless they meet every single requirement. At Reformation, we're all about growth, not gatekeeping. If you're passionate about the role and excited about making fashion more sustainable, we'd love to hear from you. If this role doesn't totally excite you, consider applying to our general application.
