Job description

We are looking for an experienced Sr Inventory Accountant to support a retail organization in Coppell, Texas. This 4 month Contract position will oversee inventory-related accounting, cost analysis, and financial reporting in a high-volume environment. The role requires a strong command of inventory valuation, profitability analysis, and close-cycle support, along with the ability to work effectively across finance, operations, merchandising, and supply chain teams.


Responsibilities:

• Lead accounting activities tied to merchandise inventory, including valuation reviews, reserve calculations, balance adjustments, and account reconciliations.

• Evaluate product costs, gross margin performance, and profitability trends across categories to support informed financial decision-making.

• Investigate inventory variances and shrink patterns, then coordinate with operational partners to identify root causes and improve accuracy.

• Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close by preparing inventory-related entries, analyses, and supporting schedules.

• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen inventory reporting processes and maintain effective internal controls.

• Monitor inventory movements and transaction activity within large-scale operations to ensure financial records remain complete and accurate.

• Prepare reporting and analysis that helps leadership assess inventory performance, cost drivers, and areas of financial risk.

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with substantial focus on inventory and cost accounting.
• Strong knowledge of inventory valuation methods, cost analysis, margin reporting, shrink review, and inventory control practices.
• Background supporting high-volume inventory environments within retail, distribution, manufacturing, or consumer products organizations.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience using enterprise systems in complex accounting settings.
• Proven ability to analyze large data sets, resolve discrepancies, and communicate findings clearly to business partners.
• Certification such as CPA, CMA, or a similar credential is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with annual inventory processes, physical counts, and inventory reconciliation activities.
