Job description
Responsible for all aspects of biomedical and healthcare technology at the medical center. Collaborates with counterparts across the health system to ensure enterprise standards, processes, and program principles are successfully delivered. Develops and manages a safe, comprehensive electrical/electronic program in accordance with organizational policies and local/state and national codes; coordinates activities with other departments/outside resources; supervises biomedical electronics staff and ensures daily workload is carried out through individual or cooperative efforts and continuously looks for opportunities to make improvements.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Focuses on enterprise-wide key performance indicators (KPIs) and core metrics to track performance and identify continuous opportunities for improvement in terms of quality, cost effectiveness and efficiencies.
3. *Plans, organizes and directs projects and staff to deliver day-to-day operations of equipment management for assigned locations; delegates work/authority appropriately.
4. *Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the work of staff; transfers, promotes and administers corrective action to employees in accordance with policies and procedures.
5. *Mentors newer technicians and provides clear communication amongst the team, demonstrates care and respect for co-workers and colleagues, drives employee success through an engaged workforce while collaborating with third-party team augmenting the program
6. *Participates in system-wide planning and decision-making activities; clearly sets objectives for department and other sites as assigned.
7. *Develops, communicates and manages budget; monitors expenditures and responds to budgetary variances, and considers financial impact of all decisions while coordinating with the outsourced third-party organization to determine such financial decisions
8. *Provides leadership, guidance, counseling and continuing education to staff to ensure compliance with facility guidelines and safety requirements.
9. Develops and ensures area orientation and training for staff; assesses, recommends and coordinates staff development needs.
10. *Creates and assigns monthly scheduled maintenance workload and tracks work throughout the month, and monitors service repair activities.
11. *Ensures complete and accurate inventory, and ensures service documentation is completed in concise, standardized fashion.
12. Assists in planning, evaluation, acquisition, service and disposal of equipment
13. *Participates in projects regarding equipment, network integration, security, and patching of medical devices.
14. Monitors and adjusts staffing schedules as needed; facilitates time accounting.
15. Communicates and interfaces with staff, medical staff, patients, families and outside resources to coordinate projects and activities in a safe and non-disruptive manner as possible.
16. Develops and maintains relationships with senior leadership, including regular meetings to discuss needs and participate in various committees.
17. *Develops and maintains relationships with third-party teams that assist in augmenting the program, including timely escalation of issues and opportunities to third-party leadership.
18. Prepares and maintains the department policy and procedure manual.
19. *Monitors/ensures quality assurance implementation and submits reports as scheduled.
20. *Completes and conducts thorough, timely and well-documented employee performance appraisals and interim progress reviews; encourages, redirects, corrects and documents employee performance as appropriate.
21. Communicates, promotes, administers and follows policies on a consistent basis.
22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
23. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
24. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of electromechanical devices and principles, as well as a high-level understanding of general patient care equipment and can demonstrate usage of supported devices.
2. Knowledge and understanding of life-support and diagnostic support devices and their usage within the healthcare setting.
3. Knowledge of a medical equipment management program and the required policies and procedures within a program.
4. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws that govern electrical and electronics equipment and usage in a medical facility.
5. Knowledge of regulatory accrediting agencies and survey processes, as well as documentation and readiness for surveys.
6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
7. Knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.
8. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
9. Ability to develop and implement area objectives and performance goals.
10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and provides timely information while ensuring the needs of the customer are met and captures feedback to make improvements
11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteers, and ancillary departments.
12. Ability to develop written policies and procedures, memoranda, and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors.
13. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel, and evaluate employee work and performance.
14. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
15. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
16. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in electronics, engineering or related field of study or ten (10) year's experience in biomed or a technical clinical area with minimum of three (3) years experience supervising biomedical, electronic or electrical equipment servicing technicians required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
