Job description

PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China's largest oil company and the world’s third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.

PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Senior Reservoir Engineer, Oil Sands, to join the Resource Management Team in Calgary.

Reporting to the Manager, Reservoir & Production Engineering, the Senior Reservoir Engineer will provide overall reservoir engineering support to SAGD start-up and well conversions, production optimization, reservoir management and safe operations. This role will work closely with Production, Geoscience, and Operations to ensure reservoir inputs incorporated as critical considerations for both short term operational decisions and long term development planning and optimization.

Accountabilities:

The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with multidisciplinary team members including Production, Operation, Geosciences, etc. to manage daily field operation.
  • Reservoir engineering support to SAGD operations, start-up, circulation, conversion, production ramp up and performance optimization.
  • Conduct field data analysis, analytical and numerical simulation studies to provide operational strategies dealing with reservoir impairments
  • Propose, coordinate and review laboratory or field testing programs to help understand and resolve operational issues and design mitigation strategies.
  • History match and performance forecast update of well/pads based on field production data
  • Analyzing field surveillance data to ensure safe operations
  • Support reporting internal and to shareholders as required
  • Support SAGD new technology screening and field testing design
  • Mentor junior engineers and/or internship students
Qualifications:
  • Relevant post-secondary degree in Engineering and APEGA Professional Engineer Accreditation or immediate eligibility
  • An advanced degree will be considered as additional asset
  • 15+ years of related reservoir engineering experience with 8+ years of oil sands SAGD reservoir engineering experience required.
  • Strong expertise in the numerical simulation of thermal recovery methods (STARS preferred).
  • Familiar with decline analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of geological principles impacting reservoir quality in in-situ oil sands development.
  • Software: Familiar with CMGL suite, GeoSCOUT, OSIsoft PI, Wellview or equivalent
  • Skills to react quickly in a fast pace work environment
  • Ability to fully integrate into a multidisciplinary team and ensure reservoir engineering considerations being incorporated in decision making
  • Strong oral, written, and organizational skills complemented with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to travel to site as required
