Job description

Injection Mold Tooling Machinist (CNC Mills)

Location: Omaha, NE
Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 7:00 AM โ€“ 4:00 PM (8โ€“9 hour shifts) | Occasional Saturday Overtime Available

A day in this role

Itโ€™s 7:00 AM in Omaha. You review the dayโ€™s prints for a new custom, tight-tolerance insert set. By 8:00, youโ€™re programming toolpaths on a CNC mill, dialing in speeds and feeds to hit a critical finish. Before lunch, you verify your dimensions with micrometers and an optical comparator, adjust the process, and build a setup sheet so the next run goes even smoother. The afternoon brings a mold repairโ€”troubleshooting wear points, refining fits, and ensuring the assembly meets spec before it returns to production. Along the way, you coordinate with Engineering, QA, Purchasing, and Production to keep work moving and quality high.

Why this opportunity stands out
  • Focus on unique, custom-engineered tooling rather than repetitive production.
  • Visible impact as the current Tool Room Lead approaches retirementโ€”growth and succession potential.
  • Team expansion underwayโ€”up to two new hires joining a collaborative toolroom.
What youโ€™ll take on CNC programming & machining
  • Program, set up, and run CNC mills and complementary equipment.
  • Produce precision components for injection molds, stamping dies, and custom-machined parts.
  • Optimize setups, solve production issues, and refine processes for repeatability.
Mold building & toolmaking
  • Build, repair, modify, and maintain injection molds from print to production-ready.
  • Assemble tooling per drawings and specifications, ensuring form, fit, and function.
  • Validate finished tooling against dimensional and quality requirements.
Quality & documentation
  • Partner with Quality Assurance during builds and production runs.
  • Verify tolerances using calipers, micrometers, depth mics, and optical comparators.
  • Create and maintain setup sheets and machining documentation.
Collaboration & safety
  • Communicate status, risks, and timelines with supervisors and cross-functional teams.
  • Help train operators and support production as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow lockout/tagout and hazard communication procedures.
What you bring Required background
  • Hands-on Toolmaker/Mold Maker experience in manufacturing.
  • 2โ€“4+ years focused on injection mold building, repair, and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to program, set up, and operate CNC mills.
  • Blueprint/part print reading and strong mechanical drawing interpretation.
  • Track record of holding tight tolerances and solving complex problems.
  • Experience across multiple machining processes and tooling equipment.
Preferred exposure
  • Haas CNC machines.
  • CamWorks or comparable CAM software.
  • EDM (electrical discharge machining).
  • Surface and cylindrical grinding.
  • Manual and CNC lathes.
  • Production machining and steel stamping dies.
  • Working with tool steels and plastics.
  • Precision metrology: calipers, micrometers, depth mics, optical comparators.
Technical strengths
  • Advanced command of CNC machining processes and toolroom operations.
  • Ability to independently establish machine setups.
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Comfort with complex math and precision work.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Physical demands
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, twisting, lifting, and repositioning tooling and materials.
  • Safe operation of manufacturing equipment and tooling machinery.
  • Ability to wear required PPE.
Benefits & rewards
  • Competitive compensation
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Retirement plan
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Flexible scheduling options
  • Relocation assistance
Proficiencies
  • Tool/Die/Mold Repair Skills
  • Tool/Die/Mold Setup Experience
Grow here

Join a team where craftsmanship matters and your ideas influence outcomes. With leadership succession on the horizon, youโ€™ll have a path to deeper responsibility and long-term growth while tackling complex, custom tooling work every day.
