Job description

Come build the next team of champions in Charm City! The Baltimore Community Rowing Juniors high school team is growing, and we are hiring Novice and Varsity Assistant Coaches for the 2026-2027 season and beyond.


The assistant coaches will work collaboratively with the juniors Head Coach to recruit, train, and retain athletes from the Baltimore Metro area and across Maryland.


High school practices are Monday-Friday, 4:15-6:30 PM. The team trains year-round with Spring and Fall racing seasons and Winter and Summer focused on erg and small boat training, respectively. The team races regionally 3-4 times in the Fall and 5-6 times in the Spring season, culminating in USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Regional Championships, and USRowing Youth National Championships for qualifying boats.


Assistant Coaches will attend daily practices; work with the head coach to create line ups and workout plans; and run land- and water-based workouts for their assigned crews. Coaches may attend regattas, assist with minor equipment maintenance tasks, and boathouse workdays. Coaches must have a positive, enthusiastic, and engaging approach to teaching and contribute to building a competitive team.


This is a contract position paying a stipend of $60-80 per practice depending on experience.


Other coaching opportunities with BCR’s masters programs may be available, as well as opportunities to work within the local school system bringing rowing instruction to the classroom and classrooms to the boathouse for learn-to-row clinics.  Novice coaches do not need prior coaching exprerience; BCR has a robust mentorship program that will ensure you have the skills you need to succeed.

Qualifications

  • Competitive rowing experience at the high school or college level.
  • A positive, enthusiastic, and athlete-centered approach to coaching - building fast boats requires building good humans
  • Willingness to obtain and keep current the following certifications: USRowing Level I (or higher), a Maryland Basic Boaters License, Safesport, NCSI background check, and CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
