We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer with deep expertise in modern programmable voice platforms to design, build, and maintain advanced conversational AI and voice solutions. You will work primarily with Jambonz as the core telephony and voice orchestration layer, tightly integrated with Twilio, while supporting chatbot and conversational AI experiences.

Strong knowledge of AI prompt engineering is required. Experience with Rasa is preferred but not mandatory.


Position Summary

As a Software Engineer – Voice AI & Conversational Systems, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining voice applications, telephony integrations, and conversational AI solutions. You will work across Jambonz, Twilio, speech services, and conversational AI platforms to build reliable, low-latency voice agents and multi-channel chatbot solutions.

You will collaborate closely with Product and AI teams while contributing to architecture, development, troubleshooting, optimization, and ongoing improvements to our voice AI infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain voice applications and call flows using Jambonz, including JSON-based call control, webhooks/WebSockets, REST APIs, media handling, and STT/TTS integrations.
  • Architect and implement robust integrations between Jambonz and Twilio, including SIP trunking, Elastic SIP Trunking, number provisioning, inbound/outbound call routing, and media bridging.
  • Build and enhance chatbot and conversational AI experiences that combine voice and text channels.
  • Develop and optimize AI prompt engineering strategies for voice agents and chatbots, including system prompts, few-shot examples, tool use, latency/quality trade-offs, and guardrails.
  • Integrate speech services such as Deepgram, Google, AWS, and other providers into the telephony stack.
  • Collaborate with Product and AI teams to ship reliable, low-latency voice agents and multi-channel chatbot solutions.
  • Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and on-call support as needed.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize call quality, latency, and system reliability across the telephony and AI layers.
  • Contribute to documentation, best practices, and internal tooling around voice AI infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proven expertise with Jambonz, including building applications, carriers/SIP trunks, media control, webhooks/WebSockets, and REST APIs.
  • Strong experience integrating Twilio, including Programmable Voice, SIP, Elastic SIP Trunking, webhooks, and SDKs.
  • Hands-on experience building chatbots or conversational interfaces for voice and/or text.
  • Solid knowledge of AI prompt engineering for LLMs and voice agents, including prompt design, evaluation, iteration, and safety.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: Node.js, Python, or similar backend languages commonly used with these platforms.
  • Strong understanding of SIP, WebRTC concepts, real-time media, and webhook-driven architectures.
  • Experience with REST APIs, asynchronous programming, and cloud infrastructure, with AWS preferred.
  • Ability to debug complex distributed systems involving telephony and AI components.

Preferred

  • Experience with Rasa or similar open-source conversational AI frameworks.
  • Familiarity with other CPaaS or voice platforms, including SignalWire, FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of STT/TTS providers and real-time audio pipelines.
  • Experience deploying and operating self-hosted or hybrid voice infrastructure.
  • Background in building production AI agents or multi-channel voice and chat systems.
  • Automotive technology or SaaS experience.
