What role you will play in our team

If successful, you will join ExxonMobil's Global Trading organization as a member of the Front Office technology team supporting commodity trading, commercial optimization, and market analytics activities across global energy markets.

We are seeking a highly motivated Full Stack Developer with strong software engineering, data engineering, and application development capabilities to design, build, and support modern applications that enable traders, analysts, risk managers, and commercial teams to make informed decisions in fast-moving markets.

In this role, you will work closely with trading desks, quantitative analysts, commercial teams, and technology professionals to develop scalable applications, data platforms, analytics tools, and workflow solutions that enhance market transparency, streamline operations, and create commercial value. You will play a key role in building production-grade systems used directly by front-office teams across crude oil, natural gas, LNG, refined products, power, environmental products, and related commodity markets.

What you will do
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain front-office applications supporting commodity trading, market analytics, risk management, and commercial optimization activities.
  • Design and build scalable full-stack solutions leveraging modern front-end, back-end, and cloud technologies.
  • Partner directly with traders, analysts, quants, and commercial stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate requirements into technology solutions.
  • Build intuitive user interfaces, dashboards, and analytical workflows that improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and application integrations supporting market data, trading systems, and analytical platforms.
  • Design, develop, and support data pipelines and data platforms that provide timely access to market, risk, operational, and fundamental data.
  • Build tools that support pricing, market analysis, forecasting, position management, and trading workflows.
  • Contribute to application architecture, technical design, and software engineering best practices.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve application performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, and platform teams to deploy and support production solutions.
  • Implement automated testing, CI/CD processes, version control, and development standards across applications.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize legacy processes and develop innovative solutions that improve front-office productivity.

What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing commercial or enterprise software applications using modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience building production-grade applications and services.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining REST APIs and backend services.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar platforms.
  • Experience building data pipelines, data workflows, and data-driven applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting energy trading, commodity trading, market analytics, or financial trading organizations.
  • Understanding of commodity markets including crude oil, natural gas, LNG, refined products, power, environmental products, or related energy markets.
  • Experience working directly with front‑office users such as traders, analysts, risk managers, or quantitative researchers.
  • Strong proficiency in Python ecosystem tools including Pandas, NumPy, FastAPI, and related analytics libraries.
  • Experience developing applications using React and modern front‑end frameworks.
  • Experience building and supporting large‑scale databases, data warehouses, and market data solutions.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Data Platform, or similar cloud‑based data technologies.
  • Experience with message‑based architectures, distributed systems, and event‑driven application design.
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices including automated testing, CI/CD, version control (Git), and DevOps methodologies.
  • Knowledge of market data platforms, trading systems, and real‑time data integration processes.
  • Experience developing applications that support trading, risk management, forecasting, optimization, or commercial decision‑making.
