JOB DESCRIPTION/TYPICAL TASK BREAKDOWN:
  • The Senior Robotics Manufacturing Engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership for robotic automation systems within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ABB robot programming, system integration, troubleshooting, process optimization, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automated production systems. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, controls, quality, and production teams to improve safety, quality, throughput, and equipment reliability.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Program, configure, and commission ABB industrial robots and robotic work cells.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve robot, controls, tooling, and automation system issues.
  • Support manufacturing operations by diagnosing and correcting production downtime related to robotic systems.
  • Develop, modify, and optimize ABB robot programs for new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Integrate robots with PLCs, vision systems, sensors, conveyors, and peripheral equipment.
  • Lead robotic system validation, testing, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time, quality, safety, and OEE.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities for manufacturing issues.
  • Develop standard work, training documentation, and operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, controls, quality, maintenance, and product engineering teams.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field.
  • 5-15 years of experience in robotics, automation, and manufacturing engineering.
  • Extensive hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting ABB industrial robots.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Strong knowledge of ABB Robot Studio and robot controller platforms.
  • Experience with robotic arc welding, material handling, assembly, machine tending, or automated manufacturing applications.
  • Experience integrating robots with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, lean principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to support shop-floor troubleshooting and manufacturing operations.
  • Greater than 5 years of industrial robotics experience.
  • Strong shop-floor presence and hands-on troubleshooting capability.
  • Able to independently support production-critical robotic systems.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with vision-guided robotics and automated inspection systems.
  • Experience commissioning new automation equipment and production lines.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols.
  • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or equivalent continuous improvement experience.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments.
