Senior Firmware Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and maintain the low-level software (firmware) that enables hardware devices to function correctly. They typically work with embedded systems, programming microcontrollers or processors using languages like C or C++. In addition to writing and debugging code, they often lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal device performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior firmware engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Firmware Engineer, you need deep expertise in embedded systems, strong coding skills in C/C++ or similar languages, and a degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with hardware debugging tools, version control systems like Git, and real-time operating systems (RTOS) is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as Certified Embedded Systems Engineer. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top performers apart. Job description

Lead the Programs That Bring the Next Generation of Connected HVACR Products to Market

Job Details: Level: Experienced | Location: Kamas, UT 84036 | Position Type: Full Time | Education Level: 4 Year Degree | Travel Percentage: Up to 25% | Job Category: Engineering

Fieldpiece is a privately held, global leader in professional HVACR tools and test instruments. We're known for developing innovative products that technicians rely on every day—and for investing in our people, our technology, and our future. Named one of the Best Places to Work in Southern California for four consecutive years, we're looking for talented people who want to make an impact while growing their careers.

Why This Role?

At Fieldpiece, our products are more than hardware—they're integrated systems that combine precision instrumentation, embedded firmware, mobile applications, cloud connectivity, and customer-focused software experiences.

As a Senior Project Manager, you'll lead the cross‑functional teams responsible for bringing these products from concept through launch. You'll work at the center of Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Operations, Marketing, and our global development partners, ensuring every moving piece comes together to deliver innovative products on time and with exceptional quality.

This isn't a role for someone who simply updates schedules. We're looking for a strategic program leader who can navigate ambiguity, solve complex problems, influence without authority, and keep teams aligned through every phase of development. You'll understand the technical challenges across hardware, firmware, software, and connected devices—not because you're writing code or designing electronics, but because you know how to ask the right questions, identify risks early, and help teams make informed decisions.

You’ll also help build and mature Fieldpiece's project management capabilities using Fast Time To Market (FTTM) methodologies while influencing how we deliver products for years to come.

This position is in our Park City, UT office with an exciting move to Heber City, UT in 2027. This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with employees typically working onsite three days per week. Additional in‑office days may be required from time to time for onboarding, training, team meetings, project collaboration, or other business needs. Travel is expected up to 25%.

What You'll Do
  • Lead cross‑functional product development programs from concept through launch and post‑launch support.
  • Drive execution across hardware, firmware, software, mobile applications, and connected technologies.
  • Align Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Operations, Marketing, and global partners around shared priorities and delivery milestones.
  • Identify technical, operational, and supply chain risks early while driving timely resolution.
  • Translate executive strategy into executable project plans that keep teams focused and accountable.
  • Improve project management practices, governance, and execution across the organization.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and trade‑offs to leaders with clarity and confidence.
  • Build trusted relationships that help teams collaborate, solve problems, and deliver exceptional results.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
  • Lead the development of innovative connected HVACR tools used by technicians across hardware, embedded firmware, mobile applications, cloud software, and manufacturing.
  • Help shape how project management evolves within a growing technology organization.
  • Influence multiple high‑visibility product launches that directly impact our future growth.
In Your First Year, You'll Likely
  • Become a trusted project manager keeping multiple cross‑functional product programs aligned and moving forward.
  • Improve project visibility through better planning, communication, and risk management—strengthening our project management processes while maintaining the agility needed for innovation.
  • Successfully deliver major new product launches that combine hardware, firmware, software, and connected technologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of project or program management experience leading complex new product development projects involving hardware, embedded firmware, software, and connected products. (Technical understanding is essential, but this is not a hands‑on engineering role.)
  • Proven ability to lead highly cross‑functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving, organizational, and decision‑making skills.
  • Experience balancing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced product development environment.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with global suppliers, ODMs, or contract manufacturers.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or Microsoft Project.
Bonus Points If You Have
  • PMP, Scrum Master, Lean Six Sigma, or Prosci certification.
  • Experience with Fast Time To Market (FTTM), Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean Product Development or Danaher Business System (DBS) principles.
  • Experience leading connected IoT or mobile‑enabled product development programs.
Why You'll Enjoy Working at Fieldpiece
  • As a privately held company, we invest for the long term—in our people, our products, and our future. That means we can focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and building lasting careers rather than chasing short‑term results.
  • Work alongside talented, collaborative teammates who are passionate about innovation and solving real‑world problems.
  • Make a meaningful impact in a company where your ideas are heard, your expertise is valued, and your contributions help shape the future of our products and business.
Benefits & Perks

We believe great work starts with supporting our employees. That's why we offer a competitive total rewards package designed to promote your health, financial well‑being, work‑life balance, and professional growth.

  • Competitive base salary with annual bonus opportunity.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting.
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Hire to Retire philosophy—Individual Development Plans for everyone and a commitment to support career development.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Savings Accounts (HSA), and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Music program—music rooms in all US offices with onsite guitar, piano, and voice lessons in California (classes can be streamed for other offices).
  • Recognition programs, launch parties and team building events to share successes.
Our Culture
  • Teamwork – We collaborate, support one another, and win as a team.
  • Urgency – We move quickly, stay agile, and focus on what matters most.
  • Respect – We value diverse perspectives and treat everyone with professionalism and integrity.
  • Trust – We build strong relationships through accountability and transparency.
  • Learning – We embrace curiosity, continuous improvement, and personal growth.
  • No Ego – We leave titles and egos at the door, value the best ideas regardless of where they come from, and work together with humility, openness, and mutual respect.

At Fieldpiece, we’re building more than innovative products— we’re building careers. If you’re looking for a place where your work matters and your contributions are recognized, we’d love to meet you.
