What is a senior financial analyst?

Senior Financial Analysts are experienced finance professionals who analyze financial data, create reports, and provide insights to help organizations make informed business decisions. They often lead financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, working closely with management to interpret results and guide strategy. Their role may also involve mentoring junior analysts and presenting findings to executive leadership. Senior Financial Analysts play a critical role in driving financial performance and supporting long-term business planning.

What does a senior financial analyst do?

Financial analysts improve a company’s financial profile by aligning accounting decisions with economic trends. Once they have at least 4-6 years of work experience, financial analysts can advance towards a senior financial analyst role. Senior financial analysts closely examine data, then use their findings to advise on investment decisions. They also supervise other members of the finance department, support forecasting, and prepare financial proposals to be approved by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior financial analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Financial Analyst, you need advanced financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting skills, typically backed by a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Familiarity with financial software such as Excel, SAP, Hyperion, and often a CFA or CPA certification is highly valued. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help you interpret complex data and present actionable insights to stakeholders. These skills are crucial for driving strategic business decisions and ensuring accurate financial planning and analysis.

How does a senior financial analyst typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Senior Financial Analysts frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with departments such as operations, marketing, and sales to gather data, understand business drivers, and provide financial insights. They often participate in meetings with department heads to discuss budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives. This collaborative approach ensures that financial analysis aligns with organizational goals and supports effective decision-making. Additionally, Senior Financial Analysts may help train junior analysts and present findings to executive leadership, fostering strong communication and teamwork across the organization.

Job description

Senior Investment Associate / Senior Acquisitions Associate

Napa, CA (On-Site)

A well-established and growing real estate investment firm in Napa is seeking a Senior Investment Associate to play a key role in evaluating, underwriting, and executing property acquisitions across a diverse portfolio.

This is an opportunity to step into a highly active investment environment where you’ll have meaningful involvement in deals from start to finish—without needing to carry the full weight of a VP-level seat.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Active deal flow with real exposure to acquisitions and decision-making
  • Opportunity to work closely with senior leadership on live transactions
  • Strong, stable platform with long-term growth
  • Collaborative culture with a focus on execution and results
  • Clear path toward leadership within the investment team

About the Role

You’ll be heavily involved in the analysis and execution of acquisitions, supporting senior leadership while also taking ownership of key pieces of the deal process.

This role is ideal for someone who has a solid foundation in real estate investing and is ready to step into more responsibility and visibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support financial modeling and underwriting for new acquisitions
  • Analyze market data, rent comps, and investment assumptions
  • Assist with and help manage due diligence and transaction execution
  • Prepare investment summaries and presentations for leadership
  • Support deal structuring, including debt and equity considerations
  • Build relationships with brokers, lenders, and other deal sources
  • Partner with asset management and accounting to track performance post-close

What We’re Looking For
  • 3–7+ years of experience in real estate investments / acquisitions / financial analysis
  • Strong financial modeling and underwriting skills
  • Experience evaluating real estate deals (multifamily, industrial, or similar)
  • Ability to think critically about risk and return
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to grow within an investment platform

Compensation & Benefits
  • $120K – $160K base + bonus

Market context:

  • Senior investment / acquisitions roles in CA typically range from $110K – $150K+ base, with higher upside based on experience and deal exposure

Benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Performance-based bonus tied to deal activity
  • Generous PTO
  • Direct exposure to investment strategy and deal execution

Apply Now

If you’re looking to move beyond pure analysis and become more involved in real deal execution and investment decisions, this is a strong next step.

You’ll have the opportunity to build your skill set, expand your impact, and work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

If you bring a solid foundation in real estate investing and want to take the next step—we’d welcome a conversation.

All inquiries handled with strict confidentiality.
