Job description

Job description:

A senior finance seat for an analyst who has outgrown their current bench. You become the embedded finance partner to a technical operations group, owning a 150M+ book across operating expense, capital and inventory, and shaping decisions directly with leaders up to the VP level. It is built for someone strong who stalled for lack of opportunity, not performance, and is ready to run their own mandate.

COMPANY

  • Established Toronto operation with a centralized FP&A team that partners directly with operating groups across the business.
  • This seat sits inside FP&A and partners with a technical operations and maintenance group, carrying a 150M+ budget.
  • Confidential search. The hiring company name is shared with shortlisted candidates under NDA.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • Base to $100,000.
  • Annual bonus target of 6%.
  • Three weeks vacation.
  • Group RRSP match starting at 1% from your first day, increasing 1% each year to a maximum of 5%.
  • Employer-supported health and benefits plan, with a shared employee contribution.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a finance business partner role, not a back-office reporting seat. You work shoulder to shoulder with operating leaders who are not finance people, earn their trust, and help them make better decisions with the numbers. It is the most hands-on seat of its kind, running across operating expense, capital and inventory, and it carries real exposure to senior leadership.

  • Own monthly accruals and variance analysis across capital, inventory and operating expense.
  • Lead long range planning for capital assets, inventory and critical spare parts.
  • Support vendor and usage-based rate negotiations.
  • Build reliability and asset-life forecasting to inform spend and planning.
  • Partner directly with the VP and two to three operating directors, holding your own with senior leadership.
  • Understand working capital and how it flows through to the income statement.
Qualifications:
  • You grew up in FP&A and are strong in FP&A. This is the core filter.
  • You are at the senior analyst level, or a strong analyst with two to three years in seat who is ready to step up.
  • You have managed a real budget at scale, 100M+. This seat runs 150M+.
  • You are comfortable across operating expense, capital and inventory, and you understand how working capital flows into the income statement.
  • You can manage up and hold your own with senior leaders, and you can run with things on your own under a light touch.
  • You flex your communication style to the room, from floor-level staff to sharp, analytical executives. This is weighted heavily.
  • CPA or CFA, completed or in progress.
  • Systems: Great Plains, Coupa, Prophix and Tableau. Python or SQL is a bonus. Hyperion or OneStream also count. Experience with a maintenance or inventory management system.
  • The strongest candidates often come from asset-heavy operations finance and may not look like an obvious match on paper.
  • This is not the right seat if your background is corporate finance, audit or accounting, or back-office support to functions like HR, IT or planning. Small-budget exposure in the 15 to 20M range is below the bar for this role.
Why is This a Great Opportunity:
  • Real partnership. You sit beside the operators making the calls, so your analysis actually moves decisions instead of landing in a reporting queue.
  • Senior exposure early. You partner directly with a VP and two to three operating directors, with influence at a level most analysts wait years to reach.
  • A full mandate. You own a 150M+ book end to end across operating expense, capital and inventory, not a narrow slice of the close.
  • Built for a step up. The seat is designed for a strong analyst who stalled for lack of opportunity, with the autonomy to run on your own.
  • Modern finance stack. You work across a current ERP, planning, AP and reporting toolset, with room to lean on Python or SQL if you have it.
  • Hybrid that respects your time. Roughly half the month in office on a flexible schedule, anchored by a single fixed midweek day.
