Job description

Job Summary:

At Centrus Energy, we're powering the future with cutting-edge technology - and we need an Electronics Design Engineer to help us make it happen. If you get excited about designing advanced electronics for motor controls, instrumentation, and electric machinery, this is your chance to turn big ideas into real-world solutions. You'll work on everything from power electronics circuit design to embedded systems, blending creativity with precision engineering to keep our facilities running at their best.

What You Will Do?

You'll take on the challenge of designing and deploying next-generation control and drive electronics for our Oak Ridge, TN and Piketon, OH sites. From creating detailed design packages and testing electronics to troubleshooting complex systems, you'll be hands-on with projects that directly impact nuclear energy technology. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, lead projects, mentor engineers, and interact with both Centrus leadership and the U.S. Department of Energy. Every day, you'll push boundaries by applying analytical methods, simulations, and industry standards to design safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions that keep our operations moving forward.

We'd Love To Hear From People With:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering plus 6+ years of experience (or equivalent) in industrial electronics, preferably with a focus on power electronics and electric machinery (PEEM) design
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, embedded systems design, and R&D
  • Strong technical knowledge spanning low-voltage DC through three-phase systems
  • Proficiency with engineering tools like PSPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, and OrCAD
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and computational skills
  • The ability to obtain (or already hold) a "Q" security clearance

A Successful Candidate Brings:

  • A Master's degree or 12+ years' experience in industrial electronics design
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated environments
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (UL, IEEE, NEC, ANSI, OSHA, NUREGS)
  • Background in electric motor design/manufacturing or embedded software development
  • A passion for solving complex engineering challenges with innovative, real-world solutions
  • Holds an active "Q" or Top Secret security clearance

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

This position will require a pre-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.

Centrus Energy and all subsidiaries shall abide by the applicable legal requirements. We prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals based on their status as protected veterans or individuals with disabilities and prohibit discrimination against all individuals based on their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin.

This position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance. Candidates for positions requiring a security clearance are required to be tested for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 prior to an offer of employment being made.  In addition, once employed, employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  This position will require preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a Q security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government.  Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.

Centrus Energy Corp. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
