JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Managing Content Editor serves as the strategic leader of Choice Hotels' editorial content function, responsible for shaping and driving the vision, quality, and performance of written content across Choicehotels.com, brand sites, and third-party channels. This role oversees a team of writers and editors, elevates editorial excellence, strengthens brand voice consistency, and ensures all content supports organic search, conversion, and brand-building objectives. The position partners cross-functionally with SEO, UX, Product, Brand, Loyalty, and external agencies to deliver best-in-class hotel, destination, and brand content that enhances engagement, supports revenue goals, and positions Choice Hotels as an authoritative travel publisher.
Note: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Editorial Leadership
  • Define and evolve the editorial strategy and roadmap to align with marketing, brand, SEO, and business priorities.
  • Develop scalable editorial frameworks, style guides, and processes to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Oversee content performance analytics and use insights to refine strategy for organic search, engagement, and conversion.
  • Champion editorial excellence across the organization, influencing stakeholders and establishing Choice as a leader in travel storytelling.

Team Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of writers and editors, fostering creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide advanced editorial coaching, and create growth pathways for team capabilities.
  • Oversee resource planning to support both high-volume and strategic content demands.
  • Introduce training programs that enhance SEO writing skills, editorial quality, and brand voice expertise.

Agency, Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Direct editorial efforts for third-party content partners, ensuring storytelling quality and brand alignment.
  • Own the long-term editorial calendar across internal and external contributors to support business goals.
  • Act as senior point of contact for agency relationships, directing creative decision-making and ensuring accountability for outcomes.

Content Innovation & Brand Publisher Development
  • Identify emerging trends in travel content, hospitality marketing, SEO, and user behavior to inform new content formats.
  • Champion adoption of AI technologies to streamline content creation, personalization, and optimization.
  • Drive initiatives that position Choice Hotels as a travel content leader through thought leadership and destination storytelling.

Operational Excellence & Quality Management
  • Oversee workflows, governance, and quality assurance processes to ensure content meets editorial standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Partner with translation/localization, UX, SEO, and product teams to enhance content substance, structure, and customer experience.
  • Establish metrics, dashboards, and review cycles for content quality, production efficiency, and business impact.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5-7+ years of professional writing, content strategy, or communications experience with a strong portfolio of digital content.
  • 3-5+ years leading editorial teams or managing writers/editors; experience managing agencies or large-scale content operations preferred.
  • Proven track record driving organic search growth, content strategy, or brand storytelling for a large consumer-facing digital brand.

Technical Skills
  • Expertise in SEO principles, keyword strategy, and search-driven content optimization.
  • Proficiency with content management systems, workflow tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Understanding of HTML, metadata, accessibility guidelines, and digital publishing best practices.

Leadership Competencies
  • Ability to lead through influence and build trust with cross-functional partners.
  • Strong operational mindset with experience managing complex editorial calendars and governance.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $123,663 - $146,000. In addition to the annual salary, this role is eligible for an annual bonus based on the terms of Choice's Management Incentive Plan (MIP).
