Job description

Job Title: Sr. Director, Technology Strategy and Innovation
Clearance Required: Ability to obtain DHS Public Trust at minimum; active DHS Suitability, DoD Secret, or higher is a plus.
Work Location: Hybrid, Vienna VA This is a player-coach role at the intersection of DHS mission, Alpha Omega capability, and embedded technologists. You will own the technical motion across the full DHS growth cycle, from first conversation through orals, code challenges, and Day 1 of execution. You will lead live demos, scope and build proofs of concept, design winning solutions in partnership with capture and delivery, and contribute directly to accelerators that differentiate us in every DHS pursuit. You will build a small, high-leverage Forward Deployed Engineering function over time. In the near term you are the function. You will be in the room with DHS customers, on the whiteboard as the architect, and behind the keyboard as the engineer when momentum depends on shipping something real. Required Qualifications: Key Responsibilities: * Carry the executive voice: Set the bar for technical communication. Present to DHS engineers and senior executives with equal command, representing Alpha Omega as a thought leader at industry forums and customer briefings. * Align technology with business strategy (Close the loop): Act as a strategic advisor bringing insights from the field directly to product, engineering, and capability leadership. Ensure our roadmaps proactively meet evolving federal compliance and modernization standards. * Direct technical strategy and innovation (Own the technical win): Lead executive technical discovery, enterprise solution architecture, oral presentations, and capability demonstrations across our highest-stakes DHS pursuits. * Embed with the pursuit. Sit alongside capture, delivery, and DHS customer engineering teams to translate mission requirements into saleable reference architectures that are Zero Trust and Cloud First aligned environments, creating credible execution plans that win. * Ship the proof. Stand up proofs of concept and demo environments that show, rather than tell, how Continuum Design, Code, Connect, and Secure compress timelines and reduce risk inside DHS environments. * Build the lab. Build and extend the Continuum Lab as a Center of Excellence, including reference implementations, accelerator templates, scripted demos, agentic workflows, and reusable solution patterns the entire growth org can pull off the shelf. * Codify the motion. Capture what works into executive playbooks, reference architectures, and onboarding material to rapidly scale the forward deployed engineering function. * Write the code. Contribute hands-on delivery when clarity, credibility, or momentum depends on it. ย  Education: * BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar degree. Experience/Skills: * U.S. citizenship is required by the federal customer. * 15+ years of progressive experience leading enterprise technology strategy, modernization, and digital transformation programs across regulated federal environments, with multi-million-dollar program ownership for large federal agencies. * 5+ years of hands-on software development, solutions engineering, or platform architecture experience, including modern cloud-native stacks (Azure and / or AWS), one or more of Python, TypeScript, or .NET, infrastructure as code, containerized workloads, and CI / CD. * 10+ years of progressive experience in a Federal environment, with significant depth in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) domain, including direct work with components such as USCIS, CBP, ICE, TSA, USCG, CISA, FEMA, S&T, or DHS Headquarters. * Proven ability to scope, justify, and steward budget for a Center of Excellence and the Continuum Lab, and to build a small, high-performance, hands-on team that ships real innovation, reference architectures, and production-ready MVPs. * Strong executive presence with proven ability to engage senior government leaders at the SES level, agency CIO, and agency CTO, and to present growth and technology strategy credibly to C-suite leadership. * Demonstrated ability to work across a matrixed organization, collaborating closely with capture, business development, delivery, product, engineering, security, and corporate functions to land complex, multi-stakeholder pursuits. Certification(s): * One or more relevant certifications preferred: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert, CISSP, Security+, PMP, ITIL, Salary and Benefit Information: The likely salary range for this position is $185,000 - $250,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
