SUMMARY 

The Staff Accountant - Development is responsible for supporting the accounting and reporting functions for Welltower’s development and construction projects. Key duties include recording and reconciling construction costs, capital expenditures, and project-related accruals, as well as assisting with monthly and quarterly reporting. This role partners closely with development, asset management, and corporate accounting teams to ensure accurate financial data and compliance with internal controls. The position also contributes to process improvements and supports analysis of project costs against budgets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Perform accounting and financial reporting responsibilities in the following functional areas: fixed assets, development loans, capital expenditures, and development.
  • Track and code development projects’ costs. 
  • Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, related footnotes, MD&A and Non-GAAP disclosures for inclusion in quarterly and annual SEC filings.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies and procedures, including compliance with identified internal controls.
  • Document processes and procedures and continually identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Consistently perform in a manner that shows commitment, results, and meets ongoing business needs, and promote a collaborative team environment between various teams in the business.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all internal customers and maintain ongoing communication with a variety of stakeholders to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
  • Develop individual skills as needed to ensure continued ability to assist with key initiatives, projects, and process improvements.
  • Monitor and reconcile assigned accounts. Maintain a complete and accurate set of working papers for all assigned accounts.

TRAVEL 

Minimal out of area and overnight travel may be expected for this position. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • Experience: 1-3 years of public or corporate accounting experience is preferred 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.  Knowledge of accounting theory, including GAAP and IFRS is preferred 
  • Excel

  • Professional certification, CPA is preferred, but not required
