What You'll Be Responsible For

As a senior member of the accounting team, you will provide financial leadership and oversight for complex development and redevelopment projects while supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Record and manage journal entries, including cash, accruals, depreciation, and amortization.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Assist with audits, tax reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare lender draw packages and monthly financial reporting.
  • Review and code invoices within ERP systems.

Development Accounting & Business Partnership

  • Serve as the accounting lead for assigned development and redevelopment projects.
  • Monitor and analyze development budgets, project costs, and financial performance.
  • Partner closely with Property Management, Asset Management, Development, and Operations teams to provide financial guidance and support informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders during month-end close and throughout project lifecycles.
  • Identify financial risks, opportunities, and trends, communicating insights to leadership.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Act as a subject matter expert for development accounting and project cost tracking.
  • Lead special projects related to process improvements, reporting enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Help strengthen internal controls and accounting best practices across the organization.
  • Mentor and support junior accounting team members, sharing knowledge and promoting professional development.
  • Review and provide guidance on accounting processes to ensure consistency and accuracy.

Qualifications We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of complex accounting responsibilities.

Preferred

CPA designation Experience in real estate, development, construction, or public accounting environments Experience with Yardi or similar ERP systems Experience mentoring team members or leading accounting projects Proven track record of driving process improvements and operational efficiencies
