Job description

Position Summary

Binks is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Design Engineer to lead the new product development of advanced fluid handling and dispensing systems. This role is responsible for the design, development, testing, and commercialization of reciprocating piston pumps, servo-driven dispensing systems, valves, applicators, and related electro-mechanical equipment used in industrial automation and manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate combines strong electro-mechanical design expertise with a deep understanding of fluid handling, motion control, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and release of reciprocating pumps, servo-driven dispensing systems, valves, applicators, and related automation equipment.
  • Develop electro-mechanical solutions for precision fluid delivery and material handling applications.
  • Perform system-level design including architecture development, component selection, analysis, risk assessment, and validation.
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies using a 3D CAD System with a focus on performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Specify and integrate servo motors, ball screws, bearings, linear motion systems, and drive components.
  • Lead prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and design verification activities.
  • Prepare engineering specifications, test plans, technical documentation, and bills of material.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, suppliers, and customers to support product development, commercialization, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable quality, safety, CE, Machinery Directive, and RoHS requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience designing electro-mechanical products, machinery, or fluid handling equipment.
  • Experience with reciprocating pumps, dispensing systems, automation equipment, or similar industrial products.
  • Advanced SolidWorks proficiency including complex assemblies, detailed drawings, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Strong expertise in servo motor selection, ball screw, and linear motion systems, bearing design, and power transmission components.
  • Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, fluid control, and pressure-driven flow systems
  • Strong mechanical design skills including stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and component optimization.
  • Experience designing machined, cast, sheet metal, and molded production components.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, product testing, and production support
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and project collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Skills

  • Experience designing electrically driven pumps, metering systems, or precision dispensing equipment.
  • Experience with sealant and adhesive dispensing systems.
  • Automotive, mobility, or SAE-related product development experience.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, motion control systems, industrial controls, and HMIs.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel design, FEA, CFD, hydraulic, pneumatic, and high-pressure fluid systems.
  • Experience with battery manufacturing, industrial coating, or automated dispensing applications.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary product development programs, supporting global product launches, and collaborating directly with customers.
  • Experience using AI-enabled engineering and design tools to improve product development efficiency.
