Position            : Sr. Database Engineer

Location          : Las Vegas, NV Onsite (Relocation works here)

Duration         : Long term contract

Position Summary

  • The Sr. Database Engineer performs independently or as a critical multi-functional team member in identifying, planning, developing, and deploying database applications in AWS RDS, Postgres EDB and other technology solutions. 
  • The engineer also acts as the single point of contact for Postgres database platform and escalations within the bank.
  • The Engineer will create and administer all database objects from design to deployment utilizing subject matter expertise to design or re-use, configure, and implement database solutions/processes that maximize system availability, efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, recoverability, and supportability.

Essential Job Functions

  • 8 years of experience in managing Postgres databases (EDB Eco system). 5 years of experience should be on the cloud, preferably AWS, with expertise in managing databases such as RDS services in AWS, security policy, user authentication, IAM, and database administration in AWS.
  • Install, configure, patch, Migrate, Maintain, and upgrade Open-source Database platforms Databases like PostgreSQL, and AWS RDS.
  • Hands-on experience with managing EDB, Postgres Distributed (PGD) and AWS RDS Day to Day activities including health checks, assigning tasks, updating SOPs etc.
  • Should be able to implement effective and maintainable database coding practices that form an architectural foundation.
  • Responsible for evaluating patch releases and patching requests from development, and communicating constraints, issues, and timelines for deployment.
  • Experience in Postgres SQL performance improvement, indexing/other approaches.
  • Good experience in Partitioning & Sharing databases.
  • Must be knowledgeable and experienced in managing PostgreSQL on multiple operating systems including Linux (RHEL) and Kubernetes in OpenShift platform.
  • Experience in Postgres SQL migration approach from on-prem to AWS and vice versa, estimating it, and technically managing it.
  • Advanced understanding of Linux OS, use SSH to connect to remote systems with password & public/private keys
  • Ability to efficiently write database code without compromising data quality, privacy, or security.
  • Hands-on Experience in Jira, GitLab, Ansible & Terraform.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD, Pipelines & automations using GitLab
  • Good understanding of the Batch process and Job scheduling automation
  • Knowledge of database design principles, query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics, and isolation levels. Clear understanding of ACID & BASE principles.
  • Good troubleshooting skills, Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and/or workarounds, Strong analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must possess good communication skills, both in verbal and in written form, and be Proficient in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems for Client facing experience.

Position Requirements

  • AWS RDS, EDB EPAS & Postgres Distributed hands-on experience
  • Capacity planning, performance assessment of AWS RDSs & Postgres Distributed.
  • Strong EDB Postgres administration experience in production environments
  • Configuration and support of complex RDS Databases in AWS environment, Configuring and managing high availability, resiliency solutions leveraging Aurora Read replicas & Global Database.
  • Experience in managing multiple RDS, database versions on large systems
  • Practical experience in monitoring & Observability.
  • Knowledge of reporting, query tools and SQL best practices
  • Experience in using Performance Insights, RDS KPI, design and management.
  • Working knowledge of Lambda, Python, Ansible & Terraform
  • Strong technical and functional experience in PostgreSQL Administration and associated tools like PgBouncer, PgPool, RDS Proxy, PGD Proxy and other related binaries.

  • Grad from CS/ EE or Eng. Equivalent
  • Technology certifications (AWS, CKA, EDB)
