Job description

Job Description Link Technologies (LinkTechConsulting.com), a Las Vegas-based IT consulting firm, is currently seeking a Database Engineering Manager to join our team. JOB SUMMARY This role leads a team of engineers specializing in Postgres (RDBMS) and Hazelcast (Distributed In-Memory cache). This team works independently or as an essential part of a cross-functional group to identify, plan, develop, and deploy database solutions using AWS RDS, Postgres EDB, Hazelcast (In-Memory DB), and related technologies

This position also serves as the primary contact for the Postgres database and distributed caching platform team handling escalations. This role is accountable for managing resources, overseeing planning and delivery of database and caching services, and serving as the service/product owner. This position is responsible for executing database and caching solutions and processes that ensure high availability, efficiency, performance, integrity, recovery, and ease of support.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Over five (5) years of demonstrated technical leadership within a 12-year career, guiding complex migration and modernization initiatives. 12 years of experience managing Postgres databases within the EDB ecosystem, with at least five (5) years in cloud environments, preferably AWS, demonstrating expertise in services like AWS RDS, Cloud-native PostgreSQL, security configurations, user access control, IAM, and AWS-based database administration. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in preparing reports and executive-level presentations.

Experienced in managing teams, including performance evaluations and personnel development. Practical experience working with distributed databases and distributed caching systems. Acts as a mentor and technical leader, inspiring and challenging a skilled team while supporting their growth and development.

Skilled in capacity planning and performance evaluation for AWS RDS, Postgres Distributed, and in-memory database technologies such as Hazelcast, Redis, or Memcached. Proven track record in overseeing product and technology initiatives, working closely with program management, and aligning with stakeholders to define priorities and plan roadmaps. Extensive experience managing production systems, developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and supporting complex RDBMS architectures like cloud-native Postgres and distributed caching on AWS EKS.

Deep knowledge of the ITIL framework and hands-on experience in change and problem management processes. Proficient in using collaboration tools such as MS Office, JIRA, ServiceNow, or equivalent platforms. Well-versed in Agile software development methodologies.

Excellent collaboration capabilities and able to effectively convey technical and business information to various audiences, including leadership and team members. PREFERRED Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Relevant technology certifications (e.g., AWS, CKA)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Experienced in overseeing PostgreSQL and in-memory databases on various platforms such as Linux (RHEL), OpenShift Kubernetes, and AWS EKS. Strong familiarity with CI/CD practices, pipeline creation, and automation using GitLab. Capable of developing and maintaining scalable and efficient database and caching code practices aligned with architectural standards.

Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with a proven ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues in client-facing situations. Applies and upholds best practices in managing database systems and distributed caching platforms. Skilled at identifying code defects and correcting database logic without sacrificing data security, accuracy, or privacy.

Accountable for assessing patch versions, handling development patch requests, and clearly communicating any limitations, concerns, or timelines for rollout. Hands-on experience with tools like Jira, GitLab, Ansible, and Terraform. Well-versed in defining and executing effective partitioning and sharding strategies in distributed systems.

Deep understanding of the Linux operating system and Kubernetes across both OpenShift and AWS environments. Knowledgeable in advanced data handling methods, including message queuing, full-text search indexing, and other performance-oriented concepts. Effective in diagnosing problems, assessing workaround options, and applying strong analytical and communication skills.

Solid understanding of data modeling, query optimization, indexing strategies, integrity validation, statistics, and isolation levels, along with a clear grasp of CAP theorem, and ACID and BASE models. Direct involvement in daily operational activities across the platform, including alert handling, task assignments, and communication with stakeholders. Experienced in the full lifecycle of database platforms, including installation, configuration, patching, migration, maintenance, and upgrades.
