Job Description
Position: Sr. Database Administrator
Location: Mclean, VA
Duration: Full-Time
Description of specific Duties in a typical workday for this position:
  • Responsible for Oracle and SQL Server database administration and maintenance for all environments on the project
  • Assisting with database design, development and enhancement of all databases including for mission critical set of applications
  • Review current standard operating procedures for database administration and maintenance and provide and take action on improvement recommendations
  • Follow best practices and be involved in defining and enhancing processes related to Oracle and SQL Server
  • Perform database refreshes, overlays from production to development/test databases to support development/testing activities of the project team
  • Support development team with troubleshooting application issues
  • Perform database patching, upgrades, and backups
  • Provide operational support, performance tuning and disaster recovery for high visibility applications and data warehouses
  • Troubleshoot, resolve and follow established processes for applying the resolution for database issues

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Math or Science
  • 15 plus years of Oracle experience
  • 5 plus years of SQL Server experience
  • Relevant Oracle Certifications and/or Relevant MS SQL Server Certifications
  • Database installation, configuration and management ability of large databases
  • Significant experience in performing database design
  • Experience supporting the development team with query/procedure/trigger/packages development, testing and deployment to the databases
  • Experience using various tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, TOAD, SQL Developer, SQL Management Studio
  • Experience with maintaining and administering multiple versions of Oracle including 11g or higher
  • Experience with maintaining and administering multiple versions of SQL Server including 2005 or higher
  • Experience in performance analysis and implementation of performance improvements using the Database Engine Tuning Advisor and the SQL Server Profiler
  • Experience with building and maintaining disaster recovery environment using Data Guard
  • Experience with Subversion, Team Foundation Server configuration management tools
  • Excellent SQL database querying skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments
  • Good organization skills to balance and prioritize work, and multitask
  • Good communication skills to communicate with support personnel, customers, and managers

Nice to Have:
  • Experience in designing disk layouts for database, virtual machine and SAN experience preferred
  • CMMI L3 or higher experience is a plus
  • Working with Federal Agencies (FAA, DoD, etc.)
