Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Database Administrator. This is a full time role with Kforce's client. The role requires hybrid work and can be based in Chicago, New York, Indianapolis, or Phoenix.
Summary:
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing the databases that power critical corporate and municipal systems. Working under the guidance of the Database Manager, this role partners closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing database solutions that support ongoing business initiatives.
Responsibilities:
* Administer, maintain, and support production and development databases across SQL Server and Oracle environments
* Monitor performance, implement tuning strategies, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness
* Enforce database security protocols, manage user access, and maintain compliance with data governance and regulatory standards
* Support capacity planning, backup strategies, and system upgrades to align with business growth
* Collaborate with IT, application support, and development teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize data workflows
* Document configurations, procedures, and policies to ensure operational transparency and continuity
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience
* 8+ years of hands-on experience administering SQL Server and Oracle database environments
* Strong experience with on-premises SQL Server (2014, 2017, 2019, 2022)
* Proficiency with Azure database technologies, including deployment, scaling, and security
* Working knowledge of Oracle administration (user management, release management, routine maintenance)
* Familiarity with Oracle GoldenGate for data replication and synchronization
* Background in cloud database technologies, including migration, performance tuning, and cost optimization
* Experience with incident management and monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Idera, and Azure Monitor
* Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) for automation, reporting, and integration
* Foundational understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts
* Ability to research and resolve issues beyond core areas of expertise
* Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills; comfortable working with minimal supervision
* Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities across database technologies
* Adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
* Clear communicator with both technical teams and management stakeholders
* High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
* Willingness to support a 24x7 operational environment to ensure uptime and responsiveness

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
