What does a senior data scientist at Citizen do?

A Senior Data Scientist Citizen is an experienced data professional who applies advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods to solve business problems—often without a traditional data science background. Unlike specialized data scientists, Citizen Data Scientists are typically experts in their domain (like marketing or finance) and use user-friendly tools to analyze data and generate insights. As a senior professional, they may also lead projects, mentor junior colleagues, and bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. Their work empowers organizations to make data-driven decisions more effectively. They play a crucial role in democratizing data science across the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior data scientist at Citizen?

To thrive as a Senior Data Scientist at Citizen, you need advanced proficiency in statistics, machine learning, data modeling, and a relevant degree such as in computer science, mathematics, or a related field. Expertise with programming languages like Python or R, experience with big data platforms (e.g., Spark, Hadoop), and familiarity with cloud data services are typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills help you translate complex data into actionable insights and collaborate across teams. These competencies enable the delivery of robust, data-driven solutions that support Citizen's mission and drive informed decision-making.

As a Senior Data Scientist at Citizen, you will frequently collaborate with product managers, engineers, and operations teams to translate business challenges into actionable data solutions. You’ll be expected to lead data initiatives, communicate complex findings in accessible terms, and help shape data strategy by integrating feedback from multiple stakeholders. This role often involves mentoring junior data scientists and participating in regular cross-departmental meetings to ensure alignment on key metrics and project goals. Effective collaboration and communication are essential, as your insights directly impact product development and user experience.
