Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics (CB2) is inviting applications from qualified individuals to serve as Senior Biorepository Data Analyst, reporting to the Director of Health Data Science Services in CB2 and working with stakeholders and researchers. The Senior Biorepository Data Analyst will be responsible for maintenance and enhancement of data quality workflows, development and maintenance of reports and dashboard, providing insights to stakeholders, data workflow automation, and for supporting growth into future areas of service. The position will provide primary support for the U of A Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute Biobank, as well as other biomedical data repositories. The position requires knowledge of a variety of biorepository and clinical data structure and coding systems. Work location is primarily onsite in Tucson, AZ.

About CB2: Since it's founding, the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics (CB2) has played a pivotal role in supporting the university's clinical research mission by offering cutting-edge informatics and biostatistics resources. From it's inception, the center has prioritized the development and application of innovative tools for clinical data management, biospecimen handling, and statistical consultation. Located in Tucson, CB2 serves researchers across the U of A system.

Duties & Responsibilities

Data Analytics

  • Gathers, structures and analyzes data from various databases and sources, performs statistical and/or mathematical programming, develops reports and visual representations.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement research projects, with emphasis on phenotyping and clinical data analytics.
  • Extracts, cleans, and organizes biomedical data from multiple sources, including biospecimen, genomic data, imaging data, research study data, and clinical data.
  • Queries clinical, biospecimen, genomic and other biomedical database to support research questions and operational reporting needs.
  • Utilizes software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, etc.) to conduct advanced data analysis and support phenotypic data insights.

Data Management

  • Creates and maintains databases and tools to store and manage data that meet research needs as well as regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Develops and maintains data interfaces and APIs to support optimized data workflows.
  • Develops and updates documentation, standard operating procedures, and guidelines for systems and databases.

Data Quality and Regulatory Compliance

  • Participates in data quality audits and implements improvements in collaboration with the Data Quality, and U of A regulatory teams.
  • Ensures data integrity, security, and confidentiality following HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective HIPAA and OHRP.
  • Advises and guides PIs and other investigators on data regulatory issues.
  • Complies with all data and operational standards of the IT, BI and Informatics Departments.

Researcher Support

  • Provides training for staff involved in data management and research analytics, supporting capacity-building efforts.
  • Provides expert level consultation services to researchers.

Other

  • May provide mentoring or supervision to students, or junior research staff.
  • Make recommendations for improvement to management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and human subjects research data regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to gather, listen and respond to feedback to ensure the data system meets stakeholder needs.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong data query analysis skills including SQL..
  • Knowledge of healthcare coding systems (e.g., ICD, LOINC, RxNorm, CPTetc.).
  • Knowledge of Epic data structures and query tools (e.g. clarity, caboodle, cogito).
  • Knowledge of biobanking software and workflows.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a biomedical or computational field, or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's in Biomedical Informatics, or related discipline, preferred.
  • Prior experience in biomedical or clinical research.
  • Experience with digital phenotyping for research a plus.
  • Experience with automated data quality monitoring and reporting a plus.
  • Experience with genomic data and data structures a plus.
  • Experience with cloud compute environments a plus.
  • Experience with AI coding tools a plus.
  • Experience with healthcare and biomedical data transport protocols a plus.
  • Experience with database management systems (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL, etc.) and ODBC preferred.
