What is a senior CSV engineer?

Senior CSV Engineers are experienced professionals who specialize in Computer System Validation (CSV) within regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices. Their main responsibility is to ensure that computer systems used in these industries comply with regulatory standards and function as intended. They lead validation projects, develop validation protocols, conduct risk assessments, and work closely with IT and quality assurance teams. Senior CSV Engineers also provide guidance on regulatory requirements, troubleshoot validation issues, and help maintain audit-ready documentation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior CSV engineer?

To excel as a Senior CSV (Computer System Validation) Engineer, you need expertise in validation methodologies, regulatory compliance (such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5), and a relevant engineering or scientific degree. Proficiency with validation lifecycle documentation, risk management tools, and quality management systems is typically required, as are certifications like PMP or Six Sigma. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring compliance. These skills are essential to maintaining regulatory standards, minimizing risks, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of computerized systems in regulated industries.

What are common challenges faced by senior CSV engineers when ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple projects?

Senior CSV Engineers often encounter the challenge of managing varying compliance standards and documentation requirements across multiple projects, especially when working with global teams. Keeping up-to-date with evolving regulations (such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11 or EU Annex 11) and ensuring that validation activities are harmonized across different systems can be demanding. Strong project management skills, proactive communication with cross-functional stakeholders, and meticulous attention to detail are essential for overcoming these challenges and maintaining audit-ready documentation.

Location:  Washington, DC
Requirement:

Randstad is seeking a Senior UKG & SAP Integration Engineer to support a high-profile enterprise client in Washington, DC. In this role, you will lead the technical design, configuration, and end-to-end integration of UKG Pro Workforce Management (ProWFM / Workforce Central) with core SAP HR, Payroll, and Finance systems. You will play a critical part in building and maintaining robust integration pipelines—leveraging Dell Boomi and Workforce Integration Manager (WIM)—while ensuring seamless payroll-to-finance posting, driving rigorous testing cycles, and resolving complex data flows across large-scale, highly regulated operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integration & Middleware Engineering: Design, build, test, and maintain robust enterprise interfaces connecting UKG ProWFM to SAP HR/Payroll/Finance using Dell Boomi (AtomSphere) and WIM.
  • UKG ProWFM Configuration & Support: Configure and optimize core time and attendance modules, pay/work rules, accruals, absence management, and holiday/scheduling building blocks.
  • SAP Financial & Payroll Reconciliation: Analyze end-to-end data flows from time capture to payroll and mandatory SAP finance posting; drive data validation and troubleshooting using complex SQL queries.
  • Testing & Stabilization: Support end-to-end and regression testing cycles across HR, Payroll, and Finance teams, ensuring compliance with enterprise controls during project cutover and post-go-live support.
  • Technical Documentation & Coordination: Create Interface Control Documents (ICDs), technical designs, and operational runbooks while using Jira to track defects and manage delivery timelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Core Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on experience with UKG ProWFM / Workforce Central configuration (Time & Attendance, Pay Rules, Accruals) and WIM interface development.
  • Integration Experience: 5+ years of Dell Boomi experience (mapping, transformations, error handling) alongside file-based and API integrations (REST, XML, CSV, SFTP).
  • SAP & Financial Integration: Proven track record integrating UKG with SAP HR, Payroll, and Finance modules, specifically handling payroll-to-finance posting.
  • Technical & Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, paired with strong SQL skills for data reconciliation.
  • Enterprise Environment: Experience supporting complex, unionized, or operations-focused workgroups in large, highly regulated environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specialized operations-based workforce tools (ATDA, Yardmasters, TeleStaff) or expanded UKG modules (Advanced Scheduler, Forecasting, Workforce Process Manager).
  • Hands-on experience executing SAP regression testing and cutover planning within structured IT frameworks.
