Job description

Role Summary
A senior control engineer is responsible for designing and supporting process control systems within the refined products and petrochemical pipeline sectors. This role involves providing technical expertise, ensuring system integrity, and supporting project scope and estimates. The position requires a blend of engineering knowledge, hands-on experience, and effective communication skills to collaborate across operations and technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support process control systems and instrumentation for refinery and pipeline operations.
  • Provide engineering and technical support for control systems, including troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Offer guidance on project scope, system configuration, and cost estimating for control system implementations.
  • Collaborate with local operations teams to ensure control systems meet operational needs and safety standards.
  • Develop and update documentation aligned with industry standards for control system configuration, safety, and loop tuning.
  • Configure and troubleshoot PLC and HMI platforms, with experience in Wonderware Intouch and Allen Bradley Control Logix.
  • Support control system testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Assist in the development of application programs for control systems while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain safety protocols, including safety system configurations and proper instrumentation practices.
  • Travel domestically up to 10% and be available on a 24/7 call basis as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; technical certifications or degrees in instrumentation or electrical disciplines are also acceptable with relevant field experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems implementation within upstream or midstream oil and gas processing environments.
  • Proven knowledge of industry standards for control system documentation, loop tuning, safety systems, and PLC configuration.
  • Hands-on experience with Wonderware Intouch HMI and Allen Bradley Control Logix PLC development.
  • Strong programming skills and ability to work independently, making informed decisions without undue influence.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and climb ladders as part of operational support.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and contractors.
  • Must have oil and gas processing experience, specifically within plant or pipeline settings.

Publishing Pay Range: $135,000.00 - $140,000.00 annually

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
