We are seeking a highly motivated technical writer to support the Kratos SRE, Inc., at our site near Crane, Indiana. Kratos Defense & Security Solutions is an industry-leading provider of advanced defense, security, and technology solutions. With a rich legacy of innovation, Kratos is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge, mission-critical systems and services that enhance national security and safeguard global assets.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Job Summary:

This role is integral for preparing, organizing, and completing program-specific documentation. The technical writer will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and program managers to ensure complex technical data is accurately translated into clear, concise, and compliant documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Document development and maintenance
  • Collaboration and communication:
    • Collaborate with SMEs and team members to gather information for documentation, translating technical information into user-friendly content for diverse audiences
    • Support document coordination including scheduling, tracking feedback, and version control
  • Travel: Up to 10% (support to NSWC Crane, industry teammates, and program reviews)
  • Quality assurance: Edit and proofread program-specific documents for clarity, consistency, grammar, and technical accuracy
  • Technical skills and professional attributes:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to write clear, concise, and persuasive content
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members at all levels of the organization

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information per government standards


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in English, communications, technical writing, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering plus a degree in English, journalism, or technical writing, or certification in technical writing.

Experience and Clearance:

  • US citizenship required
  • Active Department of War (DoW) Secret clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • 5-10 years of experience in technical writing or proposal writing
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD documentation standards and DoW technical publication practices
