Your Impact:

The Senior Content and Training Designer is responsible for developing high-quality, plain language content using the Four-Step Public Relations Process as well as the Five-Step ADDIE content development process to create engaging training curricula for the Indiana Public Retirement System. To excel in this role, you should have a strong passion for learning and development, exceptional content creation skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and engage with employees at all levels. Your creativity, attention to detail, and organizational abilities will be critical in developing impactful training content and managing the curricula development process.

Requiring a mastery of AP Style and Plain Language Guide, you will be responsible for training content management. You must be an expert collaborator and relationship-builder. You will be responsible for interviewing key stakeholders, developing content to directly support all aspects of training from organizational to job-role specific throughout INPRS, and will directly support the Director of Organizational Training and Development.

You will fulfill a dire need for the creation of clear, specific, and standards-driven training materials at all levels. You will need to demonstrate strong writing, editing, and organizational skills, an ability to adhere to the ADDIE Design Model in developing training content, and superior project management skills to ensure training content is flawless, on schedule, and adheres to all brand standards and departmental governance framework.

  • Collect training and development needs assessments to guide development and delivery of training.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to understand their specific departmental training and staff development – including job-role specific – needs and/or gaps by conducting a thorough needs assessments and gap analyses.
  • Assess training needs and the current resources available to meet those needs.
  • Define objectives for a course and/or curriculum.
  • Ask thought-provoking questions to make content more precise.
  • Employ critical and flexible thinking skills to create engaging and actionable training content.
  • Prepare detailed training proposals, including scope, objectives, methodologies, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the agency to ensure content is accurate, relevant, and targeted to the appropriate audiences.
  • Collaborate with various members of the Organizational Training and Development team to develop presentation decks, instructional materials, aids, tests/quizzes, and manuals with pre-existing templates and brand standards.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics, and then adjust content as needed.
  • Maintain dashboards and trackers to monitor progress and compliance.
  • Conduct ongoing management and maintenance of course content.
  • Ensure that all course content is relevant and up to date.
  • Manage long-term training content calendars to ensure efficient and effective development of training materials.
  • Create and implement short/long term goals to execute KPIs and goals located in the INPRS Strategic Plan.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in training and development; bring fresh ideas to stakeholder engagements.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent writing, proofreading and grammar skills required.
  • Proven ability to research complex questions and communicate complex topics in simple, understandable ways to create accurate and actionable training content.

  • Excellent project/time management and planning skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively and a consistently strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead, organize, and set priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Experience in pension, financial services, insurance and/or group benefits preferred.
  • Proven experience overseeing the design and production of print and digital materials and publications.
  • Mastered skills in creative layout and design using Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite with a desire to develop skill sets necessary to learn new content development platforms.
  • Collaborative and adaptable with a team mentality and ability to work with cross-functional teams; willingness to take direction; ability to accept criticism; willingness to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust at all stakeholder levels.
  • Comfortable working in an environment in which compliance with legal and regulatory standards, as well as adherence to policies and procedures is an absolute requirement.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communication, English, Journalism or related field of study.
  • 8+ years drafting and proofreading marketing materials and public relations written communication.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in communication and publication management and production with experience managing team workflows and cross-functional projects.
