Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager, Global Component Engineering leads a global team of engineered-component subject matter experts (SME’s) responsible for development, qualification, and continuous improvement of key components across all BAC product lines. This role, and the team it leads, reduces supply chain risk and total cost through qualification of alternate and backup suppliers for engineered components (eg fans, pumps, valves, specialized materials, etc), ensuring availability, resilience, and competitive sourcing across global regions. This role owns the end-to-end component engineering capability, including component selection, design integration, robust qualification (testing, validation, and documentation), and lifecycle management. The team ensures components meet performance, reliability, cost, and regulatory requirements while supporting both new product development and existing product platforms. The Manager establishes standards, processes, and metrics for component engineering and works cross-functionally with Product Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure component solutions enable strong product performance and business outcomes..

NATURE & SCOPE

The Manager, Global Components reports to the Sr. Global Engineering Manager and leads a team of engineers and designers, globally. This role operates across product platforms and regions, working closely with Product Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Manufacturing to define and execute component strategies. The position is responsible for driving consistent component engineering practices, qualification processes, and supplier integration across the global organization, with direct impact on product performance, cost, quality, and supply chain continuity. The Components team functions as a Center of Excellence (COE) which provides technical stewardship of the discipline across BAC, including standards and methods, and through a matrix model provides technical leadership and governance, without direct reporting authority, over all similar SME resources that exist in other areas of Global & Regional Engineering.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Own and lead the global component engineering and qualification process including component selection, design integration, validation testing, and release for production.
  • Establish and govern component qualification standards, including test plans, execution, reporting, and documentation to ensure reliable and repeatable results. Ensure strong correlation between component testing, system performance, and field reliability.
  • Partner with Global Supply Chain to identify, qualify, and validate alternate and backup suppliers, reducing supply chain risk and improving cost competitiveness.
  • Drive component cost-out initiatives through design optimization, supplier engagement, and competitive sourcing strategies.
  • Lead the team to deliver on-time completion of component qualification projects, sustaining activities, and design changes.
  • Manage priorities, resources, and schedules across multiple concurrent projects and product platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure components meet performance, reliability, regulatory, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Provide COE coordination/guidance to Mechanical engineers on other Global & Regional Engineering teams who are working on component qualification or application.
  • Provide Component engineering/qualification COE expertise to other engineering teams in the organization, as needed.
  • Guide engineering teams on component selection and system integration, including performance tradeoffs and lifecycle considerations.
  • Maintain and grow expertise in product applications, system interactions, and component behavior
  • Own component category specifications, drawings, and configuration management.
  • Develop and maintain standardized processes, tools, and best practices for component engineering and qualification.
  • Ensure test data, analysis, and documentation are accurate, traceable, and effectively used for decision-making.
  • Establish and track key metrics for component performance, qualification cycle time, cost reduction, and supplier diversification.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a global team of engineers and designers, building technical capability and ensuring strong execution.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance objectives aligned with business and engineering goals.
  • rive continuous improvement in component performance, cost, quality, and qualification processes.
  • Ensure compliance with global regulatory standards (CTI, Eurovent, UL, ASME, CE, PED, etc.).
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
