We're seeking an experienced Senior Systems Programmer with strong IBM MQ administration expertise on the IBM z/OS mainframe platform. This is a critical enterprise infrastructure role supporting production and test environments, customer requests, system upgrades, monitoring, and messaging services across the organization.
IMPORTANT:
- We are NOT looking for candidates who simply use MQ from an application perspective.
- We need hands-on MQ administrators who create, configure, maintain, and support queue managers and queues in a mainframe environment.
Ideal Candidate:
Senior Systems Programmer with 6+ years of IT experience and strong hands-on IBM MQ administration in a z/OS mainframe environment. Must have experience creating and maintaining queue managers and queues, troubleshooting production issues, monitoring queue depth, and supporting MQ infrastructure. Strong JCL and mainframe systems programming experience required. Experience with MQ upgrades, configuration, and enterprise messaging support is highly desired. CICS, WebSphere MQ, COBOL, Unix, and zLinux experience are a plus.
Looking for a Mainframe IBM MQ Administrator who happens to be classified as a Systems Programmer, rather than a traditional application developer or MQ user. The queue manager administration experience is the most critical requirement and should be validated during screening.
Required Experience:
- IBM z/OS Mainframe Administration
- IBM MQ on Mainframe (currently MQ v9.3)
- Creating and maintaining Queue Managers
- Creating and managing Queues
- JCL
- Troubleshooting production and test issues
- Queue depth monitoring and performance management
- Systems programming experience
Preferred Skills:
- CICS
- IBM WebSphere MQ
- COBOL
- Unix / zLinux
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Resolve production and test environment issues
- Create new queues and queue managers
- Modify queue configurations and queue depth settings
- Install and upgrade MQ releases
- Configure MQ environments on servers
- Monitor queue activity and error reports
- Support multiple concurrent projects and customer requests
- Participate in on-call rotation after training
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field OR
- 4 years of relevant experience OR
- 2 years of relevant experience plus an Associate's degree
