Job description


Rivermatrix is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer to join a large, complex product development environment. This role focuses on supporting all aspects of agile software design and development for products deployed across large-scale compute clusters. Responsibilities include designing and building new capabilities, conducting testing, optimizing performance, and supporting ongoing operations and sustainment. As a Senior Cloud Software Engineer, you will operate with a high degree of independence across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Design and implement scalable solutions, including integration and extension of COTS and GOTS products. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues while optimizing system performance. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Contribute to project planning by defining tasks, timelines, and technical approaches. Develop and execute test cases, create SOPs, and maintain technical documentation. Review system designs for accuracy, completeness, and scalability.

Salary Range: $160,000 - $240,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Salary will be set based on education, experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

Requirements
The Cloud Software Engineer must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering).
Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, development,
integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
At least 6 years of experience developing in high-level languages such as Java, C, or C++.
At least 5 years of experience working in UNIX/Linux (RedHat-based) environments.
At least 3 years of experience in software integration and testing, including test plan and script development.
An active TS/SCI with Poly is required.
Requirements:
Strong Java development experience, including distributed systems, networking, and multithreading
Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible or Puppet
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing, deployment, and monitoring
Experience working in Agile environments with modern source control practices
Strong Linux fundamentals and proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, Ruby, or Perl)
Familiarity with microservices architecture and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes)
Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
Hadoop or Cloud Developer certification required
Willingness to participate in a rotating Tier III on-call schedule
Ability to support surge requirements during high-priority situations
Position is primarily onsite at the customer location; telework is limited and situational
Preferred Skills
Experience with Apache Hadoop, Accumulo, and NiFi
Familiarity with MongoDB and messaging systems (e.g., ActiveMQ)
Experience with Spring Framework, Python, and Bash scripting
Knowledge of security and compliance best practices
Experience with AWS, hybrid cloud environments, and related cloud technologies
Required Certification (one of the following):
AWS Certified Developer - Associate
AWS DevOps Engineer - Professional
Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
Possession of a Cloud certification is required and will be verified as part of the interview or offer process.
